I've been a few times and highly recommend. The elotes are a must-try. I love the lengua tacos. If tongue is not your thing, the beef torta was amazing, as were the al pastor tacos. And the specialty cocktails have been spot-on.

ProTip: they have a coffee and churros walk-up window, and are way closer to the Metra platform than Sbux.

The tacos for 2 bucks could be the best happy hour deal in town ( if you can get a seat near the bar). Margaritas are great and the chicharrones and churros are delicious too.

Food was creative and good but not special. The elote and pumpkin flan were my favorite items. Service was inconsistent. Atmosphere was lively.

Tacos were sub par but what really turned me off was the noise level. Also for no apparent reason the water was warm and they filled the carafe with more warm water. No ice. Gross. Service was slow and inattentive.

La Principal was a great find! Happy hour menu is fabulous, both food and drinks. The bar area is small, but very lovely. I will definitely go back.

A LA cart menu. Interesting & tasty taco combination choices. Salads are equally as good. Cocktails range from familiar to "gotta try this". I'd go back.

Delicious & good veggie options. Small but good menu. Local beers on tap.

They have a children's menu now so that may be a recent improvement.

Solid food. Improving service. Has a lot of potential! Primary issue is that this restaurant is not nearly as family-friendly as one would expect given their location in Evanston - they lack a kid's menu and do not provide Crayons. They also do not accept reservations.

I ordered online from their site and that was pretty easy. I ordered 3 tacos: lamb, pork, and carne asada. The pick up was easy from their window and brought it home. I had heard great things about the food from friends and I really wanted to like it but it was just okay to me. I think it was missing spices or sauces... Just something. I'll definitely try it again, especially post-covid, to take advantage of their happy hour.

Definitely NOT real Mexican food. Would never come back here again. Not to mention everything is overpriced. $4 for ONE taco? And it’s not even the real deal??? No thanks. Don’t go here if you want real Mexican food.
