La Principal is a newer taco place. They take authentic mexican cuisine and fuze it with tasty ingredients. Each taco they make is a mouthful and extremely delicious. Their original Margaritas are also tasty, sweet, and refreshing. Add to that a friendly and knowledgeable staff as well as food coming out quickly with a lot of seating, this restaurant is very accomodating.

My absolute favorite taco place!
Great appetizers, good service, nice environment.
Everyone should try the lengua tacos, even if you arent sure about it!! The owner once brought me a lengua taco on the house and I've literally never ordered anything else since.
You wont be dissapointed by this place.

Place is 3.8 for me. Guac was decent. Tacos were good (but not mind blowing), the tofu taco was bland (a slice of avocodo would have made it better) and the same with the cod taco (however cod is bland in general) where a mango chutney would have helped a lot. Beef short ribs taco was very good. Beef tongue taco wasn't as tender as I hoped. Atmosphere is nice (bathrooms are tired looking and bar space seems like an afterthought). Service was good. If you happen to be in the area and want Mexican this is a reasonable choice.
Carnitas taco is decent too. Shrimp taco can be skipped over.

This restaurant is a favorite for me and my boyfriend. We love to hit up the happy hour for some $2 tacos (the lengua is my go-to), but our #1 drink isn't on the happy hour special- the Oaxacan Old Fashioned.

The atmosphere is great, the service was fast, and the food was delicious. I don't usually like Mexican food very much but I loved the tacos here. Would definitely go again.

We ordered food from here for a special event. They catered it. Delivered on-time. Great food! Amazing Guac! Highly highly recommend this local spot!

Probably the best tacos I've ever had.

I am just obsessed with this place. They have great breakfast tacos, regular tacos, and killer drinks. Be sure to stop by for their happy hour special. $3 tacos and $3 off margaritas! It's also way close to my house and near both El and Metra stops which is a definite plus :-D.

Missing one of our old favorite haunts in Evanston! We used to live a block away from La Principal and went all the time. Now that we’ve moved out of state, we are desperately missing the red mole short rib—I never went there and didn’t get at least one of those as a taco, and my husband often got the short rib torta. Other favorites of mine were the shrimp taco and the al pastor taco (smothered in the pineapple habanero salsa at the table, of course). Excellent walkable location and it was always fun to sit by the window and eat our tacos and watch the commuter trains come through.

We decided to try them for my husband’s birthday. We were very disappointed.
Service wasn’t great. The guy who’d come to get empty plates was more welcoming than the rest, all together.
We get in, hostess doesn’t welcome us goodnight, just says: three? But well. We are about to sit down, and she’s confused and asked us to move, and the waitress said it was the other people at the table next to us. They don’t really apologise by the mistake.
We ask for appetisers and drinks. EloteS, Elotes means plural. Not one elote. Ugh. Waiter says: would you like that cut in half? And we say, OK, thanks. Don’t expect to get 1 elote and a half. It’s just one. Not plural. Fix that, please.
Husband gets beer way late. Waiter says he’d forgotten about it.
We ordered shrimp tacos, other chicken tacos, torta ahogadO, and a quesadilla meal for our son.
I’m eating my shrimp taco wondering what that hard thing I’m eating is (second bite). I look at my taco and it’s the AVOCADO obviously not ripe! Well, I’m almost done with my 3-4 bite taco. Person who cleans the table asks how everything was, and I tell him about the avocado. He suggests I mention it to “them”. We were not ready to ask for the check yet, and the owner or manager comes to our table and asks why we needed him for, that he was told we asked for him. I tell him what happened with my avocado, and I also say I didn’t say anything when I was eating it, since I was almost done. He DOESN’T apologise, and he says all their avocados are hard, even their guacamole is hard. I even mentioned it was my husband’s birthday. He doesn’t even try to “make it up”. And of course, we get charged in full for everything.
Disappointed. We raised an issue, and they just acknowledge it, and they don’t try to up our experience. It doesn’t seem in line with their prices and high end vibe.
