There’s a reason they are always so busy! It’s so different now that they take reservations. We didn’t have one so were stuck at the bar this time. It’s a bit too hectic to be enjoyable for conversation. But no complaints about the food, though!
The patatas bravas are always a favorite with us. Rioja is great. I didn’t like the sangria as much.
Bread and olive oil ~ nothing compares to that Spanish olive oil. I didn’t enjoy the flavor of the albondigas (meatballs); in fact, from the menu description, I didn’t expect them to be meatballs. The halloumi cheese was different but delicious! The sauce was unexpectedly slightly sweet. The shrimp was delicious, and the sauce made it perfect.
All in all, another incredible meal at Mas!

Beautifully renovated building with indoor and outdoor seating. The staff was pleasant and professional and helpful in ordering. Expertly made entrees that ranged from surf to turf to garden. Not to mention the bacon wrapped dates that we had as an appetizer. This is a must stop location if you're visiting Charlottesville, and a wonderful treat for us who live here. Bon appetit.

Incredible experience - what a unique spot. The Paella was just right but the artichoke dip was to die for. Come here with friends and share - you wont regret it.

I LOVE Mas. When I was in college, it was a "treat yo self" type of place. Since graduating, it's definitely become one of my must-go-to restaurants while in Charlottesville. I have shared Mas with so many of my loved ones and they all love it too. With covid, they started taking reservations which I love. I have waited over an hour for a table before because it's worth it but I'm so glad I don't HAVE to anymore. The reservations do tend to book up quickly so be sure to plan ahead. The food that I always order include the carne asada (racion portion), papas bravas (tapas portion), artichoke dip, and the bacon wrapped dates. This past visit, my family also tried the paella and cheesecake which were both yummy. If you're not super adventurous, I would recommend getting a tapas portion of a few things and then ordering more of whatever you like. The price is the same for two tapas portions as one racion portion.

Aside from the amazing food, the service is always so friendly. It's a busy restaurant but the service is quick and you get your food mostly in batches, around the same time. There is an attached parking lot but it's not super big. There is plenty of street parking nearby which is nice and Mas is right by the "I Love Charlotesville A Lot" sign which I would also recommend visiting.

I would recommend trying out Mas. It's one of the gems of cville

Cozy, laid-back local tapas place with delicious food. Strongly recommend the beacon dates, mussels and the carne asada!

Every tapas dish was absolutely delicious and perfectly plated. The grilled octopus had a nice char, and the sauce and charred lemon was a great combo with the octopus. Texture was just the right amount of chew. Would highly recommend the gambas parillas. So garlicky and salty delicious. The hanger steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Look forward to coming back here again and trying more dishes.

Mas is one of the best places to eat in Virginia. Period. Consistently impressive with its flavor, service and atmosphere. Highly recommended.

The vibe here is so amazing. First time in Charlottesville and some friends suggested this place. It truly did not disappoint. The smoked tomatoes and bacon wrapped dates were my favorite and whoever made my dirty martini knows whats up.

Alrighty, I wanted to give what I feel is a pretty honest review of this place. I’ve heard from several people in Charlottesville that Mas is so good and definitely have to check it out. We’ve been trying to get a reservation for a couple of months (our schedules are crazy) and finally got one. Be prepared to reserve ahead of time for sure.

Ambiance is nice, they tried to seat us initially at the first table by the door and that was a no-go cause it’s freezing and when the door opens it’s even worse. Definitely need a space heater up by the front. The decor is cool and eclectic, rest if the restaurant was warm and tables are spaced nicely so your not on top of others.

Waitress was friendly and attentive, explained how things worked and had suggestions when asked. Nothing over the top to write home about but I wouldn’t complain about anything either.

Food: so here is why in my opinion they didn’t get 5 stars. Overall, the food was underwhelming for the price. There was a lot of bread and it’s possible that’s just the items we chose but still, a lot of the dishes came with bread. Bread was fresh and tasty though. We ordered a apple and cheese/bread starter and it was 3 large slices of cheese about 6 thin apple slices and a chunk of bread. The menu said it was unassuming and it definitely lived up to its name. Presentation could have been better. Add some oil and pepper to go with it. We ordered this artichoke dish which once it came out it was essentially artichoke dip. Tasty, yes but it’s butter and cheese so that’s generally tasty. The spanish aspect to the menu made it a little misleading. We had the mussels which was a large portion but they didn’t have much flavor and were slightly gritty, which tells me they weren’t the highest quality. We also got the Arroz con pollo, chicken was tasty but the grain was undercooked and still hard in some places. I’m sure we could have sent it back but we’re just not like that. We also got the chorizo dish which was just, meh.

Drinks were on point and delicious. Great bartender.

I really wanted to love it, but for the price I’ve spent less elsewhere and had a better meal. I would probably try it again and order different dishes and see if it was just our choices.

Absolutely amazing food made better by Colllin's attention to detail in timing the food and picking an order that the food came out in that tasted perfect, complemented each plate and helped us clean our plates (read:bread items interspersed). We will absolutely be back and will request Collin!
