Mas

Every time I go to Mas, I leave extremely satisfied. Last visit we treated ourselves to the Iberico ham, which is absolutely delicious. We also enjoyed their boccadillos (Serrano ham, manchego cheese & garlic aioli on bread) which were so simple yet one of our favorite dishes. We also enjoyed a halloumi skewer with pecans and a (fig?) reduction that was so incredibly tasty and a perfect last bite of the meal.

Amazing tapas. The smoked tomatoes, and Lamburgesa were standouts, but everything was delicious. Service was great and the ambience fun!

Took 2 friends from out of town to this joint and we all pretty much agreed. The food is decent and the paella wasn't anywhere near the price tag. The sangria is also subpar and doesn't taste any different from a much cheaper restaurant. It was one of those places where we didn't feel like we got the experience of the value of our tab... 🤷‍♂️

High-end fine dining price $$$ with mediocre service style, dishes (seasoning was so bland & unadventurous we wanted salt, pepper, hot sauce...anything), atmosphere... I'd gone somewhere else if I read this kind of review and knew this in advance.

Took my parents here and it was great. Plates are very small but frequently very delicious. Bacon wrapped dates and seared tuna are both amazing. Can be pricey if you order a lot of different things but the flavors are intense. Well worth it!

Went here first time on a Sat night at 8:00 pm, was seated immediately! Place was packed. Staff is super friendly and helpful. The food is out of this world fantastic!! Had a variety of 6 different dishes between 2 people. Hands down best food experience in Charlottesville in last 3 years! 6 Tapas dishes and 3 drinks was $120, well worth it!!! Left full and impressed!

TERRIBLE food and worse service. The sorriest restaurant experience in years. I scoured reviews looking for an interesting restaurant to take my husband for his birthday and picked this so called Spanish restaurant because they served paella, and made a reservation two weeks in advance. On arrival, we shared with our waitress that this was the one and only reservation we made on this trip, and how much we were looking forward to the paella. We had a couple drinks, and then dInner arrived and it was inedible...no exaggeration. We took two bites and couldn’t eat any more. It was like they served rice-a-roni with a few toppings. The waitress came by and I politely explained we were very disappointed and she said, “yeah, it’s not really paella. It’s just something we put together for the locals during pandemic.”
Having fully explained in advance that we came specifically for the paella, I said, “why didn’t you tell us that when we ordered?” She couldn’t have cared less. She was like a caricature of the world’s worst waitress. She brought us a dessert to share along with the bill not having taken off this offensive misrepresentation of food. As we were leaving I said NEVER AGAIN. It is unthinkable to treat people this way…to pretend you’re a Spanish restaurant, serve garbage, and charge full fare after making it crystal clear what you came for.
If you are even thinking of going here, don’t! I waited nearly three weeks to write this review because it still makes me angry when I think about that dining experience. Left hungry and felt totally fleeced. Who needs that aggravation!?!
Absolutely never again. This place gives Charlottesville a black eye.

Service was good, food was good, can't complain. Be sure you like food with a bit of spice in it though; my sister is quite opposed to spicy food and I ended up eating quite a lot of our meal myself.

My wife and I just enjoyed a 3rd year anniversary dinner at Mas, and it continues to be one of our favorite restaurants around! Our service was excellent, and the flavors are just unbeatable.

Unexpected treasure. You would be excused if you mistook the space for being unoccupied - except for the cars in the small parking lot, there's no indication that your taste buds are about to be delighted. The interior decor is pretty raw, too. They apparently put mas focus on great food cooked and served by hip and crunchy hip staff. Almost everything we had - the meatballs, the curry cauliflower, the chorizo, the artichoke dish - was fantastic. I liked, but did not love, the Cocochas De Halibut - I thought the fish was a little dry. Even the bread was good. It's not cheap. (PS I'll bet it's a great scene in the summer - I'm assuming they set up tables on the patio out front.)
