The food was great and very delicious. You can tell they have clean oil they fry in. Awesome to find that at a restaurant, shows they care about what they serve. 40s/50s Diner atmosphere with classic diner menu items, oldies playing through the speakers, and diner decor throughout. Our waitress was very attentive and super friendly. Not pricey at all. Definitely recommend you swing by one on your way to or from the Outer Banks.

As a European who is first time in US and who never visited Diners before I was impressed a loooot. So atmospheric interior, such a good food. The lady served us was so nice and careful. (And it has the decent clean restroom)

Great food! And even greater staff!
We had the french toast and the pancakes.
The waitress was supper sweet! She was more than willing to strike up conversation and share information about the area and the diner.

My sons and I went in for a quick bite. It's one of the few places within 20-30 min to eat. There was one very friendly and good waitress working. Decent food with a friendly waitress. They do have picnic tables if you don't wanna be inside.

Love this place! Nostalgia everywhere. Wait service like I remember back in the day. Grits cooked perfect, fresh made biscuits, great tasting coffee. Will visit again when passing through!

Mel's is a wonderful little nostalgic diner that you immediately feel welcomed and warm and cozy when you walk through the door! Staff is warm and friendly and waiting to please! Food is great! I am a widow and I feel very comfortable going there for a meal by myself. I take my time and there is never any rushing me to finish and leave!

Fun retro diner with reasonable prices. Fast and friendly service. Bisquits are very good.

Had breakfast today. I had a waffle and wife had eggs with potatoes and bacon and toast. Large portion and hot. A definite retro diner. Hard to find in the south. Our watress was fantastic. I asked her a most important question. "Where is the best place for ice cream in Nags Head " she said surfn spoon. She was right. Very nice. Greeted as we walked in. Very attentive. Thanks

The sweet owner, bless her heart, she was the waitress, the cook, the server, the dishwasher, etc. My family of 8 walked in an hour before she closed on a Monday afternoon. There was a handful of customers dining. She had an upbeat attitude taking care of everyone. She would run from the back to the front, front to the back. We were her last customers of the day. She just chit-chatted with us telling us about her restaurant and how Dennis Anderson, the original driver of Grave Digger, frequented her restaurant despite having his own diner at his Diggers Dungeon right down the road. She graciously gave my boys Frisbees with her restaurant logo printed on them. We still play with them. If we're ever back in the area, we will return to her diner.

This is a fun, pastime experience. Lots of things to look at and take a venture into the past. We had a really good server who was friendly and accurate with taking the order. The food was good.
