Review of Five and Ten

Five and Ten: Upscale Southern Cuisine with French Influences

If you're looking for an upscale dining experience that offers creative and contemporary Southern cooking, Five and Ten is the perfect spot for you. Located in the Five Points neighborhood in Athens, Georgia, this James Beard Award-winning restaurant is built out of a century-old house designed by famed Athens architect Fred Orr. The restaurant is known for its gourmet farm-to-table menu, extensive fine wine list, and authentic service. The cuisine is elevated Southern with French influences, making for a unique and delicious dining experience.

The menu changes regularly, offering a variety of unique and tasty dishes. Some of the highlights include the carpaccio, chilled pea soup, cornbread, and rose petal cake. The pork belly and fried catfish are also excellent choices. If you're a fan of risotto, be sure to try theirs, as it's one of the best in town. The restaurant also offers Sunday brunch and weekly burger nights.

The decor and ambiance are welcoming and relaxing, with an antique house vibe. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the service is top-notch. The restaurant can readily accommodate dietary restrictions, making it a great choice for those with food allergies or special diets.

While the prices are on the higher side, the quality of the food and service justifies the cost. The restaurant charges an additional service fee to help offset the hourly wage paid to their servers, which may be off-putting to some customers. However, the fee is explained upfront, and the restaurant is transparent about its pricing policies.

If you're looking for a fantastic dining experience in Athens, Five and Ten is a must-visit. The restaurant is sometimes overlooked but is truly one of the best in town. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just looking for a delicious meal, Five and Ten is sure to impress.

Still a stand out restaurant and worth every penny. The National and Five & Ten our Athens' take on fine dining. They're both excellent. Five & Ten pushes the envelope on creativity a little bit more than The National.

The ambiance was nice, staff was on point with attention and suggestions, and menu was mediocre. I have been wanting to go for years with my husband. The flavor and quantity was not balanced for pricing. Lights need to be added to the steps leading to the parking lot and especially around the the corner by the trash bins and the back door deck. It was pitch black and not lit at all. I stopped and reassessed the corner and decided to walk out in the driveway to stay safe where there was light coming from around the corner.

We had my mom's surprise birthday party here a few months ago, and I have been meaning to leave a review to say how absolutely wonderful our experience was. Every staff member with whom I interacted was so kind and helpful; I think the staff were just as excited as we were about the surprise! The food was also outstanding. Thank you to everyone at Five and Ten who made my mom's special day awesome.

If there was a way to rate this below 1 * I would do it. I ordered the larger lamb dish. They said it was 4 ounces but it was two squares about a half an inch by 1 inch. The accompaniment was a small amount of salad greens which was totally tasteless. I left the restaurant hungry and unsatisfied. My dinner companion ordered the steak which was so tough he had a hard time cutting it with a steak knife. I will never go back to this restaurant. It was also extremely expensive especially considering what you got. The only positive was the wait staff which was quite good

I'm really torn by this place. Everything we tried was at least very good, but nothing was super exciting. If it was cheaper, it would be amazing. But at this price range I expect be wow'd, and I really wasn't.

EDIT: This has been one of the few restaurants in Athens that we have been to multiple times. I think the thing I am most impressed by is their consistency. I have never had anything from them that was even a little bad. Maybe not super exciting, or exactly what I wanted it to be, but it is always spot on what someone in the back wants it to be. I do stick by my previous statement that at this price point I expect to be wowed, which I often am not. Service and ambiance is always absolutely top notch, though.

In the top three or four restaurants for the area. Beautiful food, not fussy, executed really well. We went on the night that they have ramen on the menu and that may have taken the spot where another special would have been better but that's a minor complaint. Go.

Food was good, but not my type of cuisine. Of the 6 of us dining, 5 really enjoyed appetizers & main courses. Most of diners ate al fresco. Nice atmosphere.

This used to be my favorite restaurant for special occasions. As of 3/18, the menu is small, with little alterations for brunch. If you love Kale then you might like it, bitter kale. It is now $10. extra to get the nice small salad greens that used to come with the brunch menu. Clearly they are cutting down portions and menu and choices. Skimpy portions, very narrow and odd choices. Sorry to see this happening as we will have to find other choices in future. Overpriced and definitely going down hill. Sue

Excellent food, ambiance and staff. We had a party of 22 and they were very accommodating and pleasant. Highly recommend.

Courteous, professional and accommodating staff. Outdoor seating great! Wait time to receive the main dish after the order was nearly 50 minutes! Menu somehat overpriced in my opinion.
