Review of Five and Ten
Five and Ten: Upscale Southern Cuisine with French Influences
If you're looking for an upscale dining experience that offers creative and contemporary Southern cooking, Five and Ten is the perfect spot for you. Located in the Five Points neighborhood in Athens, Georgia, this James Beard Award-winning restaurant is built out of a century-old house designed by famed Athens architect Fred Orr. The restaurant is known for its gourmet farm-to-table menu, extensive fine wine list, and authentic service. The cuisine is elevated Southern with French influences, making for a unique and delicious dining experience.
The menu changes regularly, offering a variety of unique and tasty dishes. Some of the highlights include the carpaccio, chilled pea soup, cornbread, and rose petal cake. The pork belly and fried catfish are also excellent choices. If you're a fan of risotto, be sure to try theirs, as it's one of the best in town. The restaurant also offers Sunday brunch and weekly burger nights.
The decor and ambiance are welcoming and relaxing, with an antique house vibe. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the service is top-notch. The restaurant can readily accommodate dietary restrictions, making it a great choice for those with food allergies or special diets.
While the prices are on the higher side, the quality of the food and service justifies the cost. The restaurant charges an additional service fee to help offset the hourly wage paid to their servers, which may be off-putting to some customers. However, the fee is explained upfront, and the restaurant is transparent about its pricing policies.
If you're looking for a fantastic dining experience in Athens, Five and Ten is a must-visit. The restaurant is sometimes overlooked but is truly one of the best in town. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just looking for a delicious meal, Five and Ten is sure to impress.

I’ve always heard about 5 & 10 and how amazing it’s supposed to be. Maybe a year or two ago it had its hay-day, but I was completely disappointed with the food. The menu was not appetizing, and when we realized we could order ramen we went with that because nothing else looked good to us for the outrageous price. The server came to our table a couple of times to tell us that they had run out of things, so we made different decisions, only to run right back and tell us the opposite, which was fine but just a little unprofessional communication from the kitchen to the tables. I was also sort of unimpressed with the overall ambience, which was a converted house space that is charming but needs care, especially the bathroom. For a restaurant that’s charging 35-50$ per entree, one would think that they would step up and renovate and/or update the space.
The ramen we ordered was tasty, and the appetizers were things I could have made at home, and then the desserts were pretty tasty but with unusual flavors that made me sort of reluctant to order dessert. I’m usually really easy to please and not afraid to try out things, but as a patron here I just felt limited and hesitant because of the really high prices and strange menu items. It felt like I had to search for and guess THE only tasty and valuable thing on the menu rather than feeling overwhelmed at all the things I wanted to taste and try. Sorry, 5&10, I really wanted to like it. :-(

Disappointing meal. My husband's duck was tough and my snapper was a little under done. The potatoes in duck fat just tasted like boiled potatoes. The place is lovely and the service was great, but I have had much better meals in Athens for a fraction of the price. Maybe they were having an off night but I can't imagine going back, sad to say

Five & Ten had been highly recommended. We arrived later in the evening and the special we wanted was sold out. We both picked other entrees which were good, but not something we normally would have ordered. Service was outstanding. We had reservations so we were seated immediately. The restaurant was busy, but well staffed. We enjoyed the evening. Dessert and coffee were especially good.

Great restaurant for meeting up with family. The staff is always very nice and love to accommodate your requests. Menu changes frequently and gives every visit a new feel. The food is always really good and there is enough options to meet the desires of many different tastes.

Go weekly if you’re rich, if you’re like me go once a year for your anniversary. Best place in town for a fancy dinner that’s so well put together you forget it’s fancy. It’s worth every dollar, if you scoff and the price you’re Food Scrooge and need to be visited by the Ghost of Amazing Meals Past. I’ll be your Bob Cratchit.

Great place with well designed, handcrafted edible art. Fresh ingredients, friendly service, tasty cocktails.
It was our anniversary and only the host acknowledged the special occasion apon our arrival.
Maybe the servers don't do that there.
Who knows.

Very cool atmosphere and location, but the food falls very short, and the staff is not very attentive. We were sat next to a table of 12, and our waitress was much more focused on them then our table of two. The lamb dish is topped with roasted cracked wheat, which makes it very difficult to chew without crunching on what feels like sand. Wouldn't return.

The short "by the glass" wine list is good, but if you would like advice-recommendations are available for the dishes you have chosen. Grilled pork tenderloin is tender, and nicely served with squash and mushrooms. The grilled trout with roe was perfectly done-couldn't recommend it more. The steamed edamame appetizer is good. The mussels escabeche are yummy, served in a patty of corn and sweet peppers with grilled bread in the side.

Personally, the steak that my mother and I ordered was way too chewy, it seemed like I was eating rubber. However, my dad ordered trout and that was absolutely delicious. The dessert was also excellent, but the main course was disappointing. I could have had a better steak at Longhorns for a fraction of the price as to what I paid here.
