Review of Five and Ten
Five and Ten: Upscale Southern Cuisine with French Influences
If you're looking for an upscale dining experience that offers creative and contemporary Southern cooking, Five and Ten is the perfect spot for you. Located in the Five Points neighborhood in Athens, Georgia, this James Beard Award-winning restaurant is built out of a century-old house designed by famed Athens architect Fred Orr. The restaurant is known for its gourmet farm-to-table menu, extensive fine wine list, and authentic service. The cuisine is elevated Southern with French influences, making for a unique and delicious dining experience.
The menu changes regularly, offering a variety of unique and tasty dishes. Some of the highlights include the carpaccio, chilled pea soup, cornbread, and rose petal cake. The pork belly and fried catfish are also excellent choices. If you're a fan of risotto, be sure to try theirs, as it's one of the best in town. The restaurant also offers Sunday brunch and weekly burger nights.
The decor and ambiance are welcoming and relaxing, with an antique house vibe. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the service is top-notch. The restaurant can readily accommodate dietary restrictions, making it a great choice for those with food allergies or special diets.
While the prices are on the higher side, the quality of the food and service justifies the cost. The restaurant charges an additional service fee to help offset the hourly wage paid to their servers, which may be off-putting to some customers. However, the fee is explained upfront, and the restaurant is transparent about its pricing policies.
If you're looking for a fantastic dining experience in Athens, Five and Ten is a must-visit. The restaurant is sometimes overlooked but is truly one of the best in town. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just looking for a delicious meal, Five and Ten is sure to impress.

I was early for my reservation but seated promptly. I started with the chilled corn soup. Amazing. It was a bit funky with crunch green coriander seeds in it, but the taste was great. I then had an evening special of pork belly, which was cooked perfectly. Getting pork belly crisp on the outside and tender on the inside is not easy. It was excellent. My entree was the fried catfish, also excellent. I loved the pepper buerre blanc, and the rice (limpid' Susan) that accompanied it.

First experience. Graduation dinner. Without a doubt, the greatest meal I have had in Athens thus far. Lived here 6 1/2 years. Our waiter, Etienne, was incredibly helpful and patient as we had a larger party. He was overly courteous and answered any and ever question we had with enthusiasm. We started with lamb sausage and shrimp tempura with fried asparagus. Followed by buratta on toasted sour dough and topped with onion straws. I had the scallops with mint and peas with a side of asparagus for my main course and topped it off with blood orange creme brûlée. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. It was absolutely incredible!

My second time dining here and again, the experience was absolutely perfect! We were lucky enough to get a reservation during the UGA graduation craziness and dinner at Five and Ten was a lovely end to the day. Everything was delicious, but highlights were the carpaccio, the chilled pea soup, the cornbread, and the rose petal cake. The service is always top notch.

Wow wow wow. Visiting from NYC I was apprehensive of the "fine dining" scene in Ga
Well let me tell you. Not only was the decor and staff beyond warm and welcoming but the food was....OUTSTANDING. outdoor heated patio was very spacious and well heated..... butternut squash angelotti was heavenly. Cornbread was a hit. Crispy sunchokes superb. Salmon was devine. Braised lamb was also fantastic. Didnt have room for dessert unfortunately. Service was prompt, polite, informative and friendly. Highly recommend. Worth the drive from wherever you're staying in Ga. (Our drive was just shy of 2hrs and It was worth it)
Will be back next time we're in Ga.

Listen, I don't do reviews, but good God, this was one of the most scrumptious dinners I've had, and I got takeout!
The restaurant feels upscale, but incredibly cozy and welcoming. All the staff I encountered were amazingly friendly.
Probably the best béarnaise I've ever had with that asparagus. I wouldn't be surprised if the gnocchi is a dividing item, since I don't think a subtly sweet, anise-adjacent sauce is for everyone. But I loved it. Lastly, I was deflated when I learned the rose petal cake is a limited time item, because it was just so wonderful. Neither the pistachio nor lemon curd overpowered the flavor, but rather, enhanced the cake as a whole.
I am being so serious when I say whoever baked that cake could have their own patisserie. Anyone who worked in the kitchen tonight could sweep Bobby Flay. It pains me that I don't live here. I don't know how every resident of Athens doesn't come here once a week.

5&10 is always my annual birthday dinner and never disappoints. The food, service, drinks, and atmosphere are always spot on. This is truly one of the best food experiences Athens has to offer.

Really nice restaurant by award winning chef Hugh Acheson. Great selection of creative and interesting treats. They change often as they are based on locally-sourced ingredients.
Our waiter was very knowledgeable and could describe the choices in great detail. I was impressed by the wine list too.
Quite an impressive restaurant for Athens GA.

My first restaurant experience at H.A.'s restaurants. As past reviewers have said – the portions are a bit small. However, it makes it up with flavor. We had the smoked duck, chicken skins, Brussels sprouts, Ramen (because it was Tuesday night), and finished the meal with the citrus semifreddo. The starters were great and the duck was so tender and flavorful. The only reason I gave 4/5 stars is because of the ramen. The noodles were slightly overcooked and there wasn't enough broth. The pork belly portions were generous (thank you!), and the mushrooms were delicious, but the kimchi was a bit strong. The semifreddo was our finale and it didn't disappoint. We licked the bowl after devouring the desert. Subtle yet flavorful and the merengue was like a party in your mouth. Service and ambiance was great. Overall we had a great experience!

We visited 8 years ago. We returned yesterday evening to find out our experience was just as good as the first time. Amazing food, great service, and friendly staff. Thank you !

Our field pea succotash and frogmore stew was incredible, one of the finest meals we've ever had. Our special, aged pork slice with bread (as an appetizer), was also just as tasty. Though dimly lit and chatters from neighboring tables seem amplified more than usual, I liked their decor and what they managed to do in an historic house.
Parking may be full on the house's premises, but go to the parking lot to its immediate left, and you'll find an obscure parking sign for Five and Ten tucked away for more parking space.
