Review of Five and Ten
Five and Ten: Upscale Southern Cuisine with French Influences
If you're looking for an upscale dining experience that offers creative and contemporary Southern cooking, Five and Ten is the perfect spot for you. Located in the Five Points neighborhood in Athens, Georgia, this James Beard Award-winning restaurant is built out of a century-old house designed by famed Athens architect Fred Orr. The restaurant is known for its gourmet farm-to-table menu, extensive fine wine list, and authentic service. The cuisine is elevated Southern with French influences, making for a unique and delicious dining experience.
The menu changes regularly, offering a variety of unique and tasty dishes. Some of the highlights include the carpaccio, chilled pea soup, cornbread, and rose petal cake. The pork belly and fried catfish are also excellent choices. If you're a fan of risotto, be sure to try theirs, as it's one of the best in town. The restaurant also offers Sunday brunch and weekly burger nights.
The decor and ambiance are welcoming and relaxing, with an antique house vibe. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the service is top-notch. The restaurant can readily accommodate dietary restrictions, making it a great choice for those with food allergies or special diets.
While the prices are on the higher side, the quality of the food and service justifies the cost. The restaurant charges an additional service fee to help offset the hourly wage paid to their servers, which may be off-putting to some customers. However, the fee is explained upfront, and the restaurant is transparent about its pricing policies.
If you're looking for a fantastic dining experience in Athens, Five and Ten is a must-visit. The restaurant is sometimes overlooked but is truly one of the best in town. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just looking for a delicious meal, Five and Ten is sure to impress.

A little underwhelming for the price. We had the strip steak and pork chop. Big prime-tasting cuts of meat cooked perfectly with essentially random stuff paired with it. The fenel balanced with tangerine was a nice touch on the steak but there was salmon roe and this sad little cornbread pudding "biscuit" that just never should have been on the plate. The steak was plated with some unknown tasteless green sauce, unknown tasteless starch chunks, and perfectly good shitake mushrooms ruined by pickling. If I wasn't paying a premium I would have been happy with the meal but some vegetables with more than a hundred calories would be nice to fill up on if you tend to eat more than meat for dinner. Side note: this is truly the only restaurant in town that can cook a steak and for that I would say the premium price is justified. I would rather pay for a perfect $40 steak than $25-30 for a poorly prepared steak that is never the right temperature like the steakhouses downtown. I still feel like I should get to be picky when the plate is $40 though. Neither my wife or I would order those dishes again, probably not return at all given the price and what you get but if you aren't price conscious this place is okay.

I ordered the Durbar Mixed Grill. It's a delicious combo of Lamb, Chicken and Seafood grilled in Tandoori. Now this is my dish! Flavor is spot on. $22. Adam ordered the Vindaloo and chose lamb. It's tangy peppery and tenderly Gaelic flavored specialty of GOA, India. This is usually the spaciest dish I'm any Indian restaurant.

Best white table cloth experience in Athens. Farm to table food and the kitchen staff knows exactly how to handle the meal. Whether you do one of the small sides and a large portion or you do a prix fix they won’t disappoint. Also their resident bartender kills it in cocktails

Coming from Houston where we have the best restaurants (competition procures excellence), I was disappointed. My son attends UGA and we were excited to find this restaurant. Step it up 5&10. We don’t mind (and actually expect) paying for an exquisite meal of carefully curated ingredients. But our experience was disappointing. We will not be back. Athens has an abundance of restaurants that are rising to the bar. Watch out 5&10.

Great local restaurant, amazing wait staff, and the food is incredible. The grilled octopus is some of the best octopus I've ever had. They do amazing things with fennel!

I've always liked Five and Ten. Really good food and really good service. My only issue now is that the portion sizes are shrinking. It's like the stereotypical mini sized meals you get at the fancy restaurants. It also was too loud for an intimate meal (although not sure how they could change that).

They did an amazing job of accommodating our large group. The staff was great and the food was fantastic!

Very nice experimental mix of French and southern food. The dumplings in the rabbit dish are downright amazing.

Hugh Atcheson and his staff bring amazing dining and wine to Athens. We're so fortunate to have 5&10 here. Indoor, outdoor, and fabulous bar make this restaurant the place to go for special occasions. You really don't need an excuse to come. Come hungry, come thirsty, leave with a big smile on your face. The staff & kitchen work hard and it shows. Hugh is somewhere back there orchestrating this experience. Cheers to 5&10!
