Review of Five and Ten
Five and Ten: Upscale Southern Cuisine with French Influences
If you're looking for an upscale dining experience that offers creative and contemporary Southern cooking, Five and Ten is the perfect spot for you. Located in the Five Points neighborhood in Athens, Georgia, this James Beard Award-winning restaurant is built out of a century-old house designed by famed Athens architect Fred Orr. The restaurant is known for its gourmet farm-to-table menu, extensive fine wine list, and authentic service. The cuisine is elevated Southern with French influences, making for a unique and delicious dining experience.
The menu changes regularly, offering a variety of unique and tasty dishes. Some of the highlights include the carpaccio, chilled pea soup, cornbread, and rose petal cake. The pork belly and fried catfish are also excellent choices. If you're a fan of risotto, be sure to try theirs, as it's one of the best in town. The restaurant also offers Sunday brunch and weekly burger nights.
The decor and ambiance are welcoming and relaxing, with an antique house vibe. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and the service is top-notch. The restaurant can readily accommodate dietary restrictions, making it a great choice for those with food allergies or special diets.
While the prices are on the higher side, the quality of the food and service justifies the cost. The restaurant charges an additional service fee to help offset the hourly wage paid to their servers, which may be off-putting to some customers. However, the fee is explained upfront, and the restaurant is transparent about its pricing policies.
If you're looking for a fantastic dining experience in Athens, Five and Ten is a must-visit. The restaurant is sometimes overlooked but is truly one of the best in town. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just looking for a delicious meal, Five and Ten is sure to impress.

One of my favorite restaurants in Athens. The food and service are top notch and never disappoint. Their specials and menu always have a great variety. Plenty of seating options (indoor/outdoor) and is a great place for a night out with friends, dinner for two, or a place to take clients. Be sure to visit and you will not be disappointed.

Not my usual sort of place to got but it was where my friends, including an out of town visitor wanted to go, so along I went. The building is quite nice and the outside seating area, where we were, was quite comfortable. The staff is efficient and the food amazing, if also amazingly expensive. If you can afford it, a worthwhile place to visit, but be warned, portions do not come close to matching prices.

Best scallops I’ve ever had, excellent service, made for the best Valentine’s dinner!

I have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while, and finally got to last night. It was my first and last time. I didn't understand what a lot of the menu was, so with the prices so high, went with a safe bet...steak. it came to me barely warm, and what I thought was my last piece of steak was actually onions, which would have been good eaten with the steak. The cold shredded lemony greens were left on the plate. My husband's fish was 'okay', but for the price, should have been delicious! Our server was nice, and that is why the 2 stars. Very disappointing!

Serving was great. Food was good. Portions a bit too petite. Entree more like small appetizer portion.

My boyfriend surprised me with dinner here and it didn't disappoint! The service was great- they accommodated my dietary restrictions- and the ambience on the patio was beautiful! We'd come more frequently if it wasn't a 2 hour drive :)

This place doesn’t hire people who choose health over the poke, absolutely not supporting this business!!!

Dinner was incredible. We came here to celebrate our first anniversary, and Five and Ten did not disappoint. Our drinks were fantastic, the food came out quickly, and dessert was to die for.

I drove to Athens from Atlanta with my wife and 4 year old nephew for the GA Bulldogs National Championship Parade. We had an awesome day and wanted to end it by having a nice dinner in Athens. Since we were unfamiliar with the area we used the Open Table app to look up a place to eat and found Five and Ten.
So right when we get there a staff member immediately stopped us and asked us to put on masks. We thought this was a little weird because we had been in several businesses in the area and even went in a bar earlier and only one establishment had a mask policy. But we understand that COVID is still a concern so we put on the masks they had at the front
After putting on the masks the staff member then asked us to show them our COVID vaccine cards or a picture of the cards. So at that point we're really shocked because we've never been asked to show a COVID vaccination card anywhere ever. We've even traveled overseas and out of state several times since COVID and have never been asked to show proof of vaccination. But nonetheless my wife thought she had a photo of the cards in her phone so we spend 10-15 mins looking for the photos. While we were doing this the staff turned away elderly couple that said they just wanted to get some dessert because they did not have their COVID vaccination cards. I felt bad for the couple because they explained to the staff that they parked far away and would have to walk all the way to their vehicles and back to the restaurant to show them their cards.
After a few minutes my wife ended up finding a photo of her card but she couldn't find mine. Another host then told us if we couldn't find my card we could sit outside on the patio. Since it was freezing cold and we had a 4 year old child with us we decided not to go with that option. So after all of that we just ended up walking out and driving all the way back to Atlanta to get dinner.
This was a horrible experience and I will never book a table at this place again. I'd definitely recommend putting the restaurant's strict COVID policies on the Open Table App the avoid this situation in the future. Also I'd post signs on the side entrance door by the parking lot in addition to the front entrance to inform patrons of the policy before they enter so they don't waste their time.

Memorable dining experiences are elevated by great food, great drinks, and attentive service. The experience is piqued when one or more of these is plain. So it was with our experience, but to be fair, I can't say the entire service experience was plain. The glasses were always kept filled by the staff whose job it was, the drinks were prompt from the bar, and the food arrived perfectly done. The table waiter, however, was pretentious. Enough about him, even though we tipped very well.
