LAYERED is a trendy and modern restaurant located in downtown McKinney, Texas. With its modern interiors, eclectic furniture, and chill vibes, this place offers a unique and inviting atmosphere for diners. The menu at LAYERED is elevated and diverse, offering a range of café fare and pastries made from scratch. The coffee here is a standout, as they roast their own beans in-house, ensuring a fresh and aromatic cup every time. While some customers have had mixed experiences with the service, many have praised the friendly and helpful staff. The restaurant is open from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM daily, making it a perfect spot for breakfast or lunch. The outdoor patio provides a great vantage point for people-watching and enjoying the downtown activities.
It's worth noting that LAYERED also transforms into a speakeasy at night, adding an extra layer of excitement and intrigue to the dining experience. However, it's important to keep in mind that the restaurant has limited seating on the patio and some customers have mentioned that it can get crowded during peak hours.
Overall, LAYERED offers a unique dining experience with its modern ambiance, delicious food, and expertly roasted coffee. Whether you're a local looking for a new favorite spot or a visitor exploring downtown McKinney, LAYERED is definitely worth a visit.

This is a great little coffee house and cafe in downtown mckinney. We didn’t try the food, but we did get try the coffee and a cupcake. The drip coffee is very good as well as their iced lattes. We tried a red velvet cupcake which was delicious. The atmosphere is very chill, artsy, and relaxing with friendly service. Will come back here again for coffee soon.

The place is OK, coffee is average and menu very limited. But the colonial vibes really distress me. Founded by an Israeli,it has continued the cultural Genocide of Palestinians, presenting dishes like "Israeli shakshouka", an Arab dish par excellance. It's sickening.

Fun coffee shop with fresh pastries and heavier breakfast items. Beer and wine also round out the offerings to make this you need to go twice a day spot.
Grab the patio at cooler times if you can although ambience inside is comfy.
Drip coffee was a smooth, medium roast with good flavor.

Fantastic brunch food. Loads of coffee options. They have a robotic bus boy that delivers dishes from the kitchen.

Well, it was fine! Popped in for breakfast one morning as I passed through McKinney. Service wasn't 'diner snappy', which I would have liked as I was in a rush, rather a little laid back. But otherwise, no complaints, breakfast choice was good.

Stopped by today and WOW, very impressed with this new coffee shop, bakery & coffee roasters. The atmosphere is what one would expect in such establishments, with the proper blend of metro simplicity and cafe warmth. That it lies in the Historic District is a bonus. The owner, Nir Sela, is the epitome of all that is accommodating, cordial, generous and helpful. It is refreshing to see someone so directly involved with the sale and production of their business.
The coffee is sublime and worth waiting for through long lines. FYI, if you like to avoid crowds, Mondays seem to be the best day. Parking is a little freer, and the lines are certainly less...affords one perhaps a finer cup of 'jo and the largest selection of roasts...or at the very least a chance to interact with the wonderful staff. The lunch menu is limited, sensible, and most of the dishes were above my standards for such an establishment. For a place whose focus is the beverages, the meals are quite good. Of particular note are the chicken dishes...the meat is marinaded for some time, the end result is quite flavorful.
The bakery does not disappoint. Nir somehow finds the cleverest bakers, and everything I've tried so far will bring that smile to your face only homemade things can. I can't think of one thing to recommend over the other...if you are a chocolate enthusiast, the brownies won't disappoint...if you like coffee cake muffins, these will leave you quite happy! Everything is so crumbly, fresh and flavorful...plus, Nir related the care with which they bake: some baked goods are allowed to mature a day or so following their creation for an even better flavor.
For me, the highlight of the place is the packaged coffee--certified fair-trade green beans roasted in-house to perfection with the fluid bed roasting method (otherwise known as the hot air roasting). The Ethiopian beans are sublime, and beat my old standby brand S**r B***s by a long degree. The strength is good, flavor superb, and one gets the satisfaction of knowing one is both drinking a superior product and supporting local roasters.
Needless to say, I will be returning to McKinney's finest coffee shop in the future.

I had brunch at Layered. I asked to speak to the owner at the end of brunch in order to give my feedback on their practice of not calling last call before 2pm (when they close.) I tried to order coffee to go at 2:05 while sitting at the bar and was told they were closed and couldn’t serve me anything else because they were closed. I asked to speak to the owner who was standing nearby. I simply expressed that I was confused as to why there was no last call or why I wasn’t checked on before the close of business. The owners response was to blame me as to why I had a complained about an otherwise okay meal in a hostile fashion. He became very threatening telling me he would punch me in the face and to get out of his restaurant (I had yet to pay.) After getting very close to my face in an aggressive manner he proceeded to look to other patrons for back up and accuse me of name calling his employees while I only told him that his actions were unbecoming of an owner. As seen in the pictures this is not a place I would return or chose to bring my family.

Horrible customer service, patio is very small, side portions very small, inside is dark. Don’t waste your time. Lots of great options elsewhere.

Ordered a mocha, Miga which was a concoction of scrambled eggs, onion, tomato, cilantro and a few other really good flavored ingredients! My daughter had the Vegan Hash and loved it!

This is our favorite place for brunch, coffee, mimosas, and dessert. We come every weekend and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere either inside or outside on the beautiful square. It is a very popular place, so be prepared to wait for a few minutes during peak hours. It is well worth the wait though. Everything is homemade and delicious. Their jam is house made and wonderful. Anything you order is amazing-from the easy breakfast tacos to corned beef hash to waffles, we enjoy everything on the menu. Our favorite coffee is the Nutella latte, and you can ice it in the summer when you are overheated. It is worth noting that there are more choices for breakfast on Sunday, and that they only serve bottomless mimosas on Sunday. Whether you are visiting from out of town or live in McKinney, you should venture here. It is one of the best most consistent restaurants on the historic McKinney square.
