Tip Top Motel, Cafe, And Bakery

Awesome! I wish I could give this place 10 stars. The food from their cafe was amazing each time we ate there. Super friendly staff. We stayed for a few nights and the motel rooms were excellent. Cozy and comfortable. Free WiFi in every room. Probably the most affordable place to stay on the island. Will be back again.

Went to the cafe on a recommendation from our hotel. Walked in and immediately felt like we were out of place which meant we were probably in exactly the right place. We sampled several plates. My favorite was the mahi mahi steak. The Tip Top Bento Box had several delicious offerings including a lightly sweet ribeye. Their Oxtail Soup, especially the broth was a favorite in our small group of four. Had to knock off a star for their Honey Stung chicken that just wasn’t what we expected. Hoped for sweet or sticky, but just tasted like regular fried chicken. Just a silly thing, but charging for lemon in the water and then forgot to put it in.
All in all, a great experience. Will definitely come back.

If you want to eat where the locals eat...this is the place. They know where the great food is.

Motel: great place to shower/sleep. We didn’t interact with anyone for checkin/checkout, but had maid service (very friendly!) every day to change out towels. There were some small ants by our bathroom sink our whole stay, but wasn’t too concerned about that since we didn’t keep food in our room and spent all of our time outside of the motel exploring the island. One annoyance was having someone smoke outside two doors down with the smell wafting into our room and being able to hear everything outside of our room (more of a fellow guest problem and not the motel itself).

Cafe: very quick service and extremely friendly waitress! Didn’t wait to be seated and the food was served within 10 minutes (large portion size of loco moco)

I booked a room here to admittedly try to save money on a business trip. I am a woman traveling alone and did not feel comfortable with the protocol of leaving the room unlocked and leaving a physical key on the bed for you. There was a man sitting outside his room watching me as I entered. Although the room was seemingly clean, the toilet seat was up, toilet paper looked like it had been recently used, AC was off and everything was unplugged. I immediately left and booked at another hotel. It really was leaving the room unlocked and the key on the bed that turned me off. How do I know no one else went into the room? How many copies of the key were there? It’s a safety thing and I did not feel safe. I wrote to them to let them know and they have yet to respond back.

Soul food, this is the place of the real local food, this place you won't find tourists but local families meeting their friends eating the food the island way, by saying that you will find this place noisy but it didn't bother me or my wife, it was a different experience from any other restaurants and we like it. Also they move the tables fast.

Best local breakfast on the island hands down. If you don't get there early be ready for a wait. It's worth it! I recommend everything on the menu except the omelets.

If you are going to be rude to the servers please don't bother going. There are plenty of people who would be happy to politely take your place. Kauai doesn't need rude tourists.

Oxtail soup is a must try. So ono. Oxtail is well cooked and tender. I think it has bamboo shoots as well. If you or your kid is allergic to peanuts make sure to tell them not to add peanuts.
Line can be super long but worth the wait.

Very happy we stopped in here. We went when they opened as we were up early every day. No wait. The banana macadamia pancakes were excellent. The waitress was a sweet lady who took very good care of us. Would definitely go back.
