Great local food! Loco moco and oxtail soup were great. Might not be what you’re used to, but delicious in its own way. Would recommend as the place has been around for over 100 years!

My wife and I were in Kauai for a couple days eating at fancy, overpriced restaurants and we were getting sick of spending over $100 for every meal so we went to Tip Top Cafe for breakfast, an unassuming cafe located in a motel. I ordered the Tip Top Grand Slam which included two pancakes (I got the banana-macadamia nut pankcakes and oh my god, might’ve been the best p-cakes I’ve ever eaten), eggs, hashbrowns, and SPAM. Fried SPAM, where have you been all my life? SPAM is life. My wife got fried eggs over rice and Portuguese sausage and she loved it. We made it out of their spending around $40 with full bellies and smiles on our faces. So if you’re sick of bleeding money at resort restaurants and/or you want one of the best breakfasts of your life visit Tip Top, you won’t regret it.

We were given the suggestion to try this place by a few locals from the area. It's part of a motel but alot of non guests arrive. I had the pancake with banana and macadamia nut, it tasted good mixed into the pancake rather than just topped. My friend had the eggs your way and the oxtail soup. Both were very good as well, the soup had plenty of meat and was all very filling.

Definitely my favorite local spot so far. People are very friendly and accommodating at the restaurant. Have not stayed at the motel so this review only pertains to the cafe. At night it turns into a sushi spot. During the day it's a popular brunch and plate lunch spot. Food was excellent all around. Good portions and quality. Just what you'd expect. They sell a few baked goods at the register and the ones I tried there are good as well.

Absolutley awesome. Real local Hawaiian fare. Massive portions, tasty food, great prices. If you want to eat what the locals eat, this is the place to do it. It's not going to win any beauty pageants or James Beard awards, and that's fine. Get the oxtail soup.

Servers take care of you very fast, local style with delicious food! No reservations but they allow you max one hour to eat so make sure you check the menu and save time for when to order.

This place is Kauai's version of Denny's. They have awesome ox-tail soup, standard American fare and a simple family atmosphere. It's not the prettiest restaurant on the island, but one of the most popular with locals. If you want a simple good breakfast or lunch and don't care about fancy atmosphere, TipTop is the place. They close pretty early, so do check hours.

Only found this place by recommendation from my neighbor in Kansas City and am very happy I took him up on it. Took 4 family members there on the way back from skydiving and the food was AMAZING! Loved their macadamia nut pancakes and the coffee was great. It had a line, but there was a reason and it was worth the 20 min wait. It was obvious that the locals also loved it, which only tells you you're in the right place.

Great local place. The price for food is average for Kaua'i from $7 to about $19. We had the OX tail soup. It was very tasty. The broth was delicious and a good size for a small. I Image the large would be huge especially if one added the extras. The extras if ordered has an extra cost. The chinese mix plate with chicken and roast pork was also tasty. I would recommend this location if you are interested in local flavored food.

If you love oxtail, this will the best meal you ever had on Kauai! Their regular comes in a huge bowl (might want to go for small if you don't have big appetite) with bottom loaded with big chunks of oxtails, and comes with rice noddle, vege and bamboo shoots with clear broth. We had to wait in line for about 15 min. The cafe is only open for lunch, but they do offer oxtail for take out for dinner but you will need to cook it yourself.
