The Carmel Coffee House and Roasting Company

A place like this is the best argument for alternatives to Starbucks. Best tasting mocha I have ever had, and I'm not prone to superlatives - and I have had quite a few.

Update: apparently, the quality control isn't as tight. Went back the next day, got the same thing - and, a tinge of disappointment. Still better than SB, but not as good as yesterday. One star is coming off.

As a regular coffee shopper downtown, I've sampled them all until I found this place. Best price, taste, and service. Plus, a beautiful place to chill off the beaten path.

Charming patio, great teas, dog friendly, BUT the SERVICE is consistently MEAN!!
My husband was telling me he would not go back in the Carmel Coffee House, and I thought he was being overly sensitive.
I went into it myself just to experience the same unnessessary rudeness by the MANAGER no less! I simply inquired when they would get their chamomile tea back in since they were out, she actually sneered at me and snipped that she had no idea when she would get it back in, she would have to order it.
Seriously, why make someone feel like they are a bother when they are needing a chamonmille tea, who does that? Plus I told her I would leave her a review, and she smiled at me like give me a break, I could care. So if she doesn't care about her customers, why support this cafe? Sad to see someone who thinks they don't need to be helpful when they are in the service industry.
Funny thing is is that I'm in retail 40 hours a week, in Carmel and I have never intentionally been rude to a customer in 30 years of being in the business. But again some people don't have any class.

Tasty coffees, excellent mocha, loved the heated ham and cheese croissant for $3.95. Servers could be friendlier. Inside the alley which makes for quiet, plentiful patio seating, also has indoor tables. Roast their own coffee.

Breakfast food was delicious and coffee was good. The only problem is they only get about half of the options in the order correct (i.e. type of cheese, almond milk in coffee). May be good to ask for them to repeat the order. We got a sauage breakfast burrito and egg sandwich. Both were great and homemade. Better than starbucks. Iced coffee was good, but could be stronger. They dont have cold brew.

It may not be the worst latte I have ever had but pretty close to it : ) May be they use well roasted beans but unfortunately there are no skills. I could not finish the drink. If you go for a coffee may be choose another place.

Coffee is good. Prices are reasonable. Staff seemed disinterested. Though I did overhear one of the girls that was working the register complain of feeling under the weather. So it might have just been an off day. Worth a stop by. Cool little courtyard area. Im gonna come back and give them another try and see if the service will be better. Nice decor too. After going back sveral times. It's clear it was just an off day. Good service every other time I went there.

The milk brand they used when I went is the same one that you get at a gas station or corner store - 'Dairy Pure'. The kind I bought once in college and never again because it tastes so bad. I could absolutely taste how terrible the milk was in my white mocha--I couldn't finish it, and that's a first for me. Otherwise, the garden was quaint and the pastries were a little dry but good, but the line inside is extremely unorganized and they take forever.

This place doesn’t know good coffee. Very harsh and bitter taste. My espresso macchiato was the size of a small cappuccino. Not friendly service either. Looked like a good selection of baked goods though I didn’t have anything.
