I AM Elbaz

A small and extremely costly with a warm home like feeling coffee shop. Great coffee quality. The owner fiscally work at the place and make all the pastries. Support and spread the love y'all.

Tourist trap! I had a brew coffee (not spectacular) and my wife the tiniest almond late and paid over $15 usd! Hidden charges and not clear explanation about the amount charged. Last time we had 2 coffees a scone and we paid over $20 and the expensive scone ever. If you want to go there, just be aware that you are paying for the view...

In short: overpriced, burnt/bitter coffee, sour milk, and rude owner.

The long version, speaking from barista experience: when we were looking for an early evening caffeine boost, we were left with no other choices in the downtown area, so we went here. As we entered, there were only two other patrons at a table whom which the owner was loudly talking to across the room as she didn’t acknowledge our entry. As we patiently stood at the counter waiting to order, she continued to ignore us and holler in conversation to the other patrons. She almost appeared to be on drugs the way she was behaving and speaking.
She eventually took our order but seemed to only have the capacity to take the order for one drink at a time, as she continues to holler to that same pair in a loud obnoxious manner.
I watched her reuse milk that was sitting out in the steam cup, probably old and cold which is a fast track way to make it sour.
When she finally got around to ringing us up, she charged us for an extra shot. When I jumped in and asked, “why are we being charged for an extra shot? Standard latte drinks come with a standard double shot”, she replied with, “I wouldn’t know, I don’t drink coffee anywhere else, but this is how it works in my shop” …and there’s your problem lady. How could you know how it works throughout the industry if you’re too self-obsessed to not venture out to other coffee shops to see how things actually work?
In summary, I would not recommend this coffee shop to anyone. It is clear that this shop only survives because it stays open later than any other coffee shop in town and is very overpriced, so likely thrives off the rich yacht owners around the wharf. If you’re in need of a coffee and everything else is closed, continue on tired my friends.

Love, love, love this place! Alyssa makes the best cakes, coffee and my personal favorite Chai Tea Latte. We followed her from her old location on the wharf and we hope everyone else does as well. BEST IN NEWPORT!!!

Over $10.50 for the SMALLEST latte I’ve ever seen. It was a medium size but the cup was SO tiny and it was ALL ICE. There were probably 3 or 4oz of coffee in the cup! The prices in fact are not clearly listed as some other reviews might suggest. I looked at the prices of the lattes and I would have never ordered it if I knew it’d be such a rip off. The coffee is average tasting. Trust me, SKIP THIS PLACE!!!

STAY AWAY. I should've read the reviews before I came here. The $32 for 2 coffees and 2 snacks is an understatement. Not only is the cost outrageous, but the coffee and food was mediocre at best. I also greatly regret tipping. This is a sailing town, so I think people will understand the analogy...I feel like I've been taken on a ride through the Drake Passage, financially speaking. Also, note on the Square receipt that it says "custom amount." A Square receipt anywhere else would have the itemized breakdown of what was purchased. This place is a scam and incredibly unethical.

Best espresso in Newport. We visit often, and I am newly converted to the Coffee Grinder over former favorites. The owner is so friendly, knowledgeable about NPT and coffee, and happy to make your specialty coffee just how you want it. If you’re particular about your espresso drinks, this is where you want to go!

I am really surprised by the overall low rating here. I wonder if it’s bc of the pastries, which admittedly don’t look the best; I haven’t tried them bc I don’t eat gluten. But really, the coffee is excellent!
