Uptown Cafe and Catering

We were there for breakfast at 10am. You eat and drink on Styrofoam cups and paper plates in the name of Covid. However, cleanliness was poor even at the starting of their shift. It is not being well maintained. Stayed and ate there because the staff was nice and they assured me the food was good. Food was good, but not good enough for me to return.

I had some time right before my hair appointment and originally wanted The Root Cellar but they stop serving lunch at 2 so I thought I'd give this place a shot. Big mistake! I would think being near a hospital that the service would be somewhat swift but it was slow. They barely had any customers and the staff did nothing but run around playing and joking with each other. I'm pretty sure there wasn't a manager there and certainly not an owner present. I ordered the Avocado BLT and it took 20 minutes... TWENTY MINUTES for a BLT is absurd! The sandwich was fair but certainly not worth the wait and poor service. Also I wanted a chocolate chip cookie but all they had was walnut, peanut, date, chocolate chip cookies. Uh...overkill much? You're a cafe, try keeping it simple. I would have been better off making my own sandwich at home. 'll never go back.

I have been ordering from Uptown for at least 25 years. I love that it has remained consistent. Ingredients are always fresh and portions are large. The Ruby diamond is my go to but would try anything they offer!

The most amazing salmon, smoked in-house!! It's available in several dishes and it's incredible. This place is a classic, Tallahassee hometown, low key restaurant with a great menu and fast, friendly service. Great for brunch. They also do a lot for the community.

This is one of those neighborhood gems that make you glad you are nearby. I have never left there hungry or feeling like I didn't get my money's worth. The menu is huge for breakfast and lunch with such a variety that I narrow down my choice to 4 or 5 things and still stutter when the server asks what will I have. The staff is friendly and helpful. The parking can be challenging at peak times, but that can be sorted out easy enough by parking across Magnolia street in the old bank parking lot next to Uptown's catering van.

I eat here for breakfast often. Best dishes are between the mancakes or salmon hash. Honorable mention to the corned beef hash as well. Always a friendly staff that’ll keep your coffee cup filled.

This restaurant has been in business for a long time. It was downtown at one time but moved near the main hospital more than a decade ago. The food is mostly sandwiches, salads and soup. They also have breakfast entrees. I particularly like the corned beef hash with eggs. They use actual corned beef not the canned sort. The food is simple fare but well executed and done with pride. It has indoor and outdoor seating. It can be quite crowded during business lunch hours and also for the mid morning brunch crowd on weekends.

Uptown is one of the local establishments that have been here for ages and remains a beloved restaurants by locals and visitors. Don't let the simple diner furnishings fool you. It's not fancy because the highlight here is the food and particularly the smoked salmon. You will very likely be greated or assisted by Fred the owner. You know a place is good when you can find an owner who enjoys being a customer facing element of their restaurant. Great for breakfast or lunch. If you like Hopkins Eatery you will probably like Uptown Cafe

Despite living in Tallahassee for 3 years and hearing rave reviews of Uptown Cafe, I took until recently for me to finally visit. And now I'm angry at myself for not doing it sooner! The food here is great and exactly what I wanted in a locally-owned cafe. The sandwiches, like the reuben I ordered, as well the soups come in a wide variety and new specials are offered daily. I will need to "research" the menu here more before I feel truly satisfied.

Great service and delicious food! The staff was very kind and friendly to us. Got the “Mancake” which was meat cooked into a massive pancake with eggs. Was very yummy but now I cannot move. A nice spot to go to in Tally
