Do yourself a favor - whether you’re a southwest Virginia native, or you’re just passing through, make it a point to stop here.
We stopped in on our way back to Atlanta, and we were absolutely blown away. This could easily be picked up out of southwest Virginia and dropped into an area of Atlanta like Virginia Highlands and thrive there. Quick aside - we honestly didn’t know anything about Abingdon, but were pleasantly surprised by the town as a whole.
Back to the matter at hand though - The Girl and The Raven had phenomenal food, quick and personable service, and a really warm atmosphere. It has the warmth and charm of a family run cafe (because it is), but has a level of professionalism and consistency that is unusual in family run restaurants - especially one that has only been open for a year. When we went, it was busy, but the staff as a whole kept clear heads, and took care of people’s needs with efficient care.
I had some of the best soup I’ve ever had - a German ham and potato soup that the owner made up off the cuff. Seriously. The best. From what I understand, they make new soups regularly, and they are all great according to a lady who was sitting near us and overheard us raving about it.
We will definitely be stopping back in when we visit family in DC.

Went for breakfast before work a few weeks ago and was probably my favorite breakfast of all time.
The chef’s special was a blueberry compote french toast, and had lemon zest and cream. I genuinely have nothing bad to say about this dish. Everything was perfectly done and no element overpowered any part of the dish.
If this dish ever comes back, MAKE SURE to get it!

I am always on the search for real coffee as an Australian on a road trip, missing the coffee culture of Sydney . The Girl & The Raven has great coffee and a good selection of breakfast and lunch choices. I appreciated watching the Staff wiping down tables diligently with wipes and the premises and bathrooms were spotless . I had an iconic Aussi Avocado Smash and my husband enjoy a more local breakfast of sausage, grits and biscuit. Thank you Erica for excellent and professional service with a smile.

We had breakfast at The Girl & The Raven on October 29. It was easily the best breakfast we have had on vacation. The service was great! The staff clearly enjoy their work. It was clean and a very nice atmosphere. My husband had the drip coffee and really enjoyed it. Everything from the biscuits, gravy, jam, breakfast meats and grits were all amazing! We will definitely be back next time we are in town.

My husband and I love this place. The coffee alone is so amazing. Such a good favorite. The food is really good and you get a really decent amount of it. Every time we’ve been the staff has been so friendly to us. I went around halloween with my kids in the drive thru, my oldest seen spider man, mentioned it to the person checking on us the next thing we know the guy dressed up as spider-man bought us our drinks with a big smile. Another time My husband, our youngest, and myself went for Breakfast, I mentioned to the people making coffee that I had just got an espresso maker and wanted to watch to see how they made their drinks. Not only did they let me watch, they showed me and taught me different techniques for different drinks. They didn’t treat me like a burdened, they were so welcoming and helpful. I loved that and am thankful for that. If you’re around Abingdon wanting a nice cup of coffee and wanting to try something local, defiantly try this place!

This place is really lovely. We were able to sit outside for breakfast. Our server said she was fairly new and didn’t know all the baked treats, so she had another server explain them to us. I had the chai latte, cinnamon roll and a slice of quiche. Everything was very tasty. My friend had the coffee, roasted on site, and said it was really good and needed nothing added to it. She had the bacon cheddar scone and eggs and biscuit with sausage gravy and enjoyed those as well. It was a quiet Wednesday morning there and the food came out quickly and the service was great. I would definitely go back.

This place is so lovely, we went twice on our recent trip! Great coffee, roasted on site, and tasty breakfast items. I got breakfast sandwiches on gluten free bread instead of a biscuit. I also got delicious tea cakes (also gluten free) from the bakery place. Big patio, friendly vibe. We got to meet the owners and they really make this place feel like an extension of their home!
