Pretty good interior Mexican food. Drinks are strong. We had salad (delicious), another appetizer that I forgot name of, octopus, bone marrow, fish collars and ice cream dessert. Salad was my favorite amazingly. The rest was good.
2 drinks + those items is approx $225 including tax and tip.
It’s a very seclusion restaurant (like it doesn’t look like the restaurant at all from outside) and the entrance is hard to find. I like how private it feels but some people find it pretty confusing.
The ladies at the front desk were very friendly and welcoming. They offered a few tables for us to choose from and we picked one of the high tops close to the bar counter. We went there for dinner and the menu is more on the pricey end - almost NYC level. However, the restaurant does give an energetic and fun vibe. All the cocktails we tried were great and they were pretty generous on the portion when I ordered shots of don julio 1942.
Things I didn’t like much about this place: 1) due to the design of the building, it gets very noisy and loud. Not a quiet date night experience. 2) it’s too dark at nights. I’d recommend them to turn more lights on during the dinner time
Overall a fun experience and I’d still recommend everyone to go at least once.
I went to celebrate my birthday and my experience exceeded my expectations. The staff signed a birthday card for me which I thought was a thoughtful gesture. We had multiple dishes and definitely were pleased with presentation, flavor, and serving sizes. The menu is seasonal so you'll see it change frequently. The bone marrow tacos are a staple and recommended having at least once. My favorite were the Tacos de Pescado, which are on the lighter side. The Tacos al Vapor were delicious but quite messy to eat, beware eating if you are wearing white. The patio is gorgeous and feels like a hidden gem right in the middle of the city. Highly recommend if you are in the mood for high end Mexican food.
Excellent modern Mexican. One of the best cocktail menus, the mezcals are a must. Great variety for variety of diets - vegan, veg, carnivores. The veggies, tamales, steak and fish tacos are not to be missed! Bone marrow is delicious. So is the green salsa. For brunch, snag a seat outside.
The best meal I had in Austin! It was such a creative menu and presentation, our table really enjoyed the tuna aguilache, beef tartare, grilled octopus, bone marrow, sundae, and the tajin pavlova. We also got some cocktails and mock tails and thought those were tasty too. Everything was extremely delicious and we had an amazing time eating here. The service was extremely attentive without being overbearing. We definitely will come back again!
I've been wanting to come here for a long time, and while we didn't go for dinner, we went for drinks and appetizers. The place is really cool, although it is dark. The ambience is inviting and sets the mood for some great Mexican cuisine. There are tables and there's a natural outdoor experience with lots of plants in the setting. They have a huge bar area and a wide selection of drinks. The staff is friendly and entertaining. We ordered a $21 taco, which was like a tostada and while extremely expensive, was so delicious. I think it had octopus and a few other items in it. We will definitely go back again for a full dinner. Btw, This is Comedor, not the Garage. :-)
Quite literally almost missed the door! But beyond the incognito exterior, you’ll step into a large, modern, industrial space that transports you to Mexico City. Came here for Sunday brunch. The pastry plate is a must, the huarache was uniquely delicious, and the aguafrescas can’t be skipped! Loved everything from start to finish!
Watch-out: on top of food and tip and tax, they charge administrative fee (2%), service fee (5%), and healthcare surcharge (3-4%) —— so… that’s like 18% tip + 8% sales tax + 10% above extra. Quite a lot.
Food was ~excellent, except for the salad situation. Spinach wasn’t that fresh unfortunately. Bone marrow taco melts in your mouth, quite fatty but that’s what you want. Shrimp cocktail is on point (slightly spicy). And the dessert (milk ice cream and brownie with molten chocolate inside) ooh-la-la
A curated fine dining experience inspired by Mexican cuisine sourced from Texas farms. Comedor is a MUST for anyone involved in the food scene in Austin. Dishes are complex but balanced, every detail and bite considered carefully by the chef. The service is just as well thought out as the dishes, servers seamlessly and inconspicuously top up wine glasses and time your meal. You will leave thinking about your next visit.
We’ve been going to Comedor for years now and it never fails to impress. The food is always amazing, and the cocktails on point. The menu changes frequently so there is always something new to try. The atmosphere is great and service has always been awesome. Lastly don’t leave without trying the bone marrow tacos.
