Brunch at Comedor is wonderful. Delicious, unusual Mexican dishes are beautifully executed. Service is attentive, yet provides time to linger. The atmosphere is modern yet warm with a perfect balance of architecture and plants.

The Good: A truly unique space that makes the best of the real estate in downtown Austin. Top notch atmosphere. A wait staff that told you their honest opinions and didn't try to up-sell the most expensive things on the menu. Incredible drinks and stunning presentation. The orange leche cake dessert was to die for.
The Meh: For a bill over $200 (and we didn't go crazy), I expected slightly more. The quesadilla was fantastic, but in the end, it's a quesadilla. The pescado tacos were light and flavorful, but in the end they were $31 battered and deep fried fish tacos.

We came here off a recommendation from a friend and it did not disappoint overall. Our server was wonderful and attentive. She gave great recommendations. The sunchoke tostada was fantastic and flavorful. The grouper tacos were probably my favorite and were flawless. The NY strip I could have done without. It was cooked properly (rare to med. rare) but was still very Fibrous and a little tough. Well seasoned though. The chocolate tamal was interesting and not super good. It had a VERY thick chocolate masa coating that was way way too much. It was just gobs of corn coco masa. The ganache in the middle wasn’t enough to cut it and the ice cream was incredible paired with it but it was way too small of a portion compared to the huge amount of masa. Overall a great experience but for my palate I would have changed my ordering up a little.

My husband and I tried this place on a whim and were luckily able to be seated on a busy Saturday night. The restaurant has a lot of modern touches, and was very dark and moody, just adding to the aesthetic. We ordered the bone marrow tacos and the tuna aquachile per recommendations from the waiter. He did mention the aquachile had a little kick to it, and as a huge spice fan, I was eager to try it. Let me tell you, it was maybe one of the hottest dishes I’ve ever had. My husband (who can handle some heat) was miserable after one bite. It pretty much blew out our palates and our mouths were on fire for a while after eating two bites of the aquachile tuna. Let me express that I can handle spicy Indian food and hot salsas any day of the week, this was amped up by 1000 for the heat of the chiles in this dish. You couldn’t even taste the fish. We sadly couldn’t finish it and the waiter did not offer to take the dish off, even though we expressed to him that it was extremely hot and not just a hint of spice, like he previously led on and we were disappointed. He just apologized and took the dish away- not offering anything else or to take it off our bill. We probably won’t be back. I would recommend the bone marrow tacos, if anything. That saved this restaurant to be an average rating from our experience.

Absolutely loved this place! It's hidden in plain sight but such a gorgeous space as soon as you walk in. We went in recently for a date night and were not disappointed. We started with a few Repo Ginger cocktails which were phenomenal - and dangerously easy to drink! For started we did the Smoked Tuna, Octopus & Shrimp Tostada, Tuna Aguachile, and the Texas Mushroom Quesadilla. The tostada was incredible, amazing flavor and generous portion. For the mains, we did an order of the Tacos de Pescado and the Bone Marrow Tacos. Both were substantial in portion and delicious to the very last bite! We typically like to eat - like EAT eat - and we struggled to finish everything, but it was so worth it. Service was good, and the ambiance and decor was so unique to anything else here in Austin. We will definitely be back!

Can’t say enough great things about Comedor! Hestia cancelled our reservation at the last minute due to COVID staffing issues so we decided on here instead. Honestly, I’m happy things turned out the way they did. Staff is incredibly knowledgeable about the food, ingredients, and cocktails. Ambience here at night is very dark and moody, but also intimate and “cool.” The food is packed with flavor and the presentation is quite nice too. Cocktails were absolutely perfect, I’m still dreaming about the vida moda! Can’t wait to come back here, it was well worth it!

Outstanding experience. Staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Everything was delicious, though the tuna/octopus tostada, pork belly taco, and tuna aguachile stood out. The affogato was a great way to finish the meal.

Really great experience. Definitely pricey but margaritas were great, some of the most delicious grilled octopus and chicken I’ve had! Nice place for a special occasion 💯

I came here on date night with my boyfriend. We didn’t have reservations so they sat us at the bar. The service was excellent! We still had full service at the bar. They made excellent recommendations. We got the Tuna Aguachile, tuna tostada and charred okra. I’ve never had food like this before, and I’m usually a picky eater with a few food allergies. It was sooo delicious, we were savoring every bite. The ambiance of the space is really nice. It feels super cozy even with all the cool colors. I can’t wait to be back!!

We had some of most incredible dishes we have had in recent times. The tuna aguachile was divinely surprising.
The reason for the 4 stars are down to the duck and the desert being really disappointing, to the noise level and the cold temperature inside the restaurant.
