Houmas House and Gardens

The property is beautiful. You could take 2-3 hrs just enjoying the gardens. The house furnishings are amazing and a must see. The tour guide did a great job telling the history and answering our questions. The oak trees are massive and the grounds are covered with these beauties. Walk up to the river to get a good view of what they would have seen before the levee was built. I highly recommend Houmas House and Gardens.

This historical site is just magical! The gardens and mansion is over the top gorgeous! The guide was wonderful. I am really disappointed to have missed the Museum that was built. It sounds amazing. They allowed my little dog on the tour with me. I chose to carry her so she would not have a potty incident. But every little detail was beyond impressive. This is the best of all the plantations to explore!

We arrived early and they let us go ahead and do the tour before our scheduled one. Patrick our tour guide was amazing! He took his time and gave everybody the chance to take pictures if they wanted to. He was very knowledgeable and didn’t rush us through the tour. The gardens are very beautiful and picturesque! We absolutely loved the whole experience! Great job Patrick!

Excellent tour! We loved Mrs. Ruby, our tour guide! She was very informative and patient with us and all of our questions.

The cost for two adults is $70 plus tax but that cost includes a self-guided tour of the gardens which are very beautiful!

There's a restaurant and bar here. The bar makes great Bloody Mary's!

While walking around the gardens, be sure to visit the bird. He talks and he loves attention!

Houmas House is where the movie Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte was filmed and you can see the room Bette Davis stayed in. If you can, watch the movie before visiting. You'll recognize some of the rooms from the movie.

My husband and I have done this your several times and we enjoy it each time! Can't wait to come back!

This was an excellent plantation tour. Huge parking lot with ample room. We bought tickets online for a certain time for the tour.
The grounds were impeccable. Beautifully groomed and well cared for. Beautiful lake with swans, geese, and ducks.
We had an excellent tour guy. He knew his stuff. Great historical stories to go along with the facts of the home.
Each room was carefully decorated to the period and some with original furniture.
Very friendly people as well.
Tour took about 1:10. We walked the grounds a bit so the whole visit was about 1:40.
Oh forgot the nice little kitty to greet you when u get there.

We loved touring and staying at Houmas House Plantation! The accommodations were stunning, clean, and reasonably priced. The gardens alone are worth every penny!! We stayed nearly a week and enjoyed every minute. The food at The Carriage House was wonderful. Our tour of the big house, led by Ruby, was very interesting. She was friendly and full of information. Make sure you stop in the gardens and visit Charlie, he likes music and will talk with you.

This was my first visit to a plantation house and it was very nice. Our guide was a man and I wish I could remember his name. He lad long gray hair and he gave an excellent tour and you could tell he enjoyed giving it. The house was very nice with lots of history. There is much to see in the house. You even get to see one of the dining rooms for Latils Landing restaurant which is an excellent restaurant. The grounds are perfectly manicured and it is very peaceful to wander around and see.

The hotel has a very period atmosphere. The house is a little smaller, but the facilities are very good. The price is a little expensive, but the beauty of the entire manor makes you feel that it is worth the money. At night, the swans are as beautiful as paradise under the lake and lights, and the manor is in the lake. The reflection of the place is refreshing, and the harmony of the peacock and the rooster, this is a place worth coming again, just a pity that dinner needs a reservation, so don't know if the meal is delicious

Great tour of the house. Our guide, Darren, explained the history of the important objects and paintings in the building, as well as how the building has been modified over time by different people. Very kind guy. Let me play the piano, and I felt so honored.

The garden is absolutely EXTRAORDINARY!! So much detail, texture, and uniqueness to explore. Beautiful architecture.

my wife and I stayed in the caretakers cottage on 3/30-3/31/2022, I was told the cottage was not used often. It was a delight to stay there. Very comfortable king bed, spacious interior, fantastic bathroom. Everything very clean, plenty of towels, great Keurig coffee maker with assorted pod selections. Golf cart service on really a few moments notice to anywhere on the property. Literally every member of the staff; gift shop, golf cart service, tour guide, waiters, restaurant hosts, breakfast attendants, museum guide, landscaping and lawn service personnel, even the owner when I believe he answered the phone at 630 in the morning when I had a question about the check out time, every single one of them was engaging, polite, and answered any questions I had. Can you tell that the employees here like working for the owner? I did. Do you get a house tour where you see the owners personal bedroom and office? I did. The owner has delivered an experience extremely hard to get anywhere else. I have stayed at 4 star hotels for a solid week each in Paris, Rome, Florence, and Venice, none of them have achieved what the owner of Houmas House has. His vision, taste, elegance-uniqueness, and achieving a beautiful atmosphere where his guests can feel at home with an engaging experience, is a testament to a true architect of exceeding one’s expectations by far. If you want the experience of staying on the property of excellence, forged by a visionary, you must stay at Houmas House.
