Our visit to Houmas House was So Amazing.
Our lunch was cooked to perfection. Our server, Parker, was very attentive & professional.
We toured the Houmas House & Darren, the tour guide, brought our group back in time as if we were experiencing all of the history.
Rachael took time & showed us the beautiful grounds.
I visit Houmas House 3-4 times a year.

What a wonderful experience for my wife and me. A huge banquet of excellent food paired with excellent wines under the trees on a pleasant evening. The a stop at the Turtle Bar for fine single-malt scotch. A memorable night.

Pros:
- Beautiful home and gardens. We went after the Christmas freeze, and even though a lot of plants were covered, the grounds still looked nice. The indoor and outdoor Christmas decorations were lovely.
- Great tour guide. Our guide was informative and pleasant. She even volunteered to take photos of guests and made sure everyone had enough time to look around before moving on to the next room.
- Dog-friendly. Two families brought their dogs on our tour. The home has dog decor everywhere, and they even have a cute story they share with guests.
- Touching the past. They allow guests to touch several items which I feel enhances the tour. They even let guests play songs on their very old baby grand piano.
Cons:
- Overpriced. With fees, it’s $40 per person for an hour-long tour.
- No mention of slavery. This was the most disappointing part of the tour. Not one word even though other plantations acknowledge this awful part of history. The owner’s response on other reviews who mention this is laughable. He invites them to pay more money and learn about slavery at Houmas in his separate museum.

We went to Houmas house for lunch at Carriage House on a Saturday to celebrate my sister’s birthday. The grounds are beautiful and we enjoyed the afternoon. Service at the Carriage House was fantastic. Unfortunately, our entire party felt their dish was under seasoned including no salt. I understand that they cook for tourist’s rather than locals, but there’s no excuse for serving bland food. Louisiana is known for its delicious food. Hoping this experience was a fluke.

My comments will have to be based on past experience, since now $35.00 a person is just too much for average person to afford in this day and age. It was great at $25.00 a person, i went often and brought guest! But now i have to find more affordable touring places.

Houmas House is a wonderful place! My wife and I have spent two weekends there, this month.
The grounds are meticulously designed and cared for by friendly and helpful staff. Additionally, the sculptures, outdoor furniture, and water features are expertly curated. And the guest rooms are spacious, comfortable, and appointed with antiques that continue the Plantation feel, into your dreams.
The house itself is a Southern gem, and the tour guides bring the history to life with interesting, and sometimes whimsical facts.
The staff at the Carriage House restaurant, and the Turtle Bar are friendly and professional. The food and cocktails are flawless. And the wine list would make the most discriminating sommelier ecstatic 👍
We have not yet visited the River Road Museum, but have heard great things from other visitors. We look forward to returning soon, and experiencing it for ourselves.
Try to visit for one of the special dinners and wine tastings that are upcoming.
I dont have enough superlatives in my quiver, to convey our experiences at Houmas House. Visit for yourself. I'm sure that you will agree.

Nice tour just a little more expensive than what I think it's worth. The museum is pretty good but mainly photos and wax figures. Still a good history lesson. We did both the house and museum tour.

I had the most wonderful experience here. This place is historic, romantic, and beautiful. The house is AMAZING. The gardens are creative, well maintained, and beautiful. The restaurants are upscale and delish.

Absolutely stunning place to tour around. I did the guided tour and thoroughly enjoyed what was talked about. We went inside the plantation home into most of the rooms and while she was giving the history I found myself in awe of it.
The landscaping is well kept and it’s clean even with hand sanitizer stations. This place is a true gem and if you have some left over time I’d recommend going to the museum also.
