Luckily we where in the area and able to have dinner at one of my all time favorites; I have been eating here whenever I'm near since they opened in 2005 and I have never been disappointed. The building has changed a lot through the years but the amazing food is a constant. Thanks for the great food. 🇬🇧

Felt a bit rushed to order but honestly the meal and service after that quick encounter more than made up for it!! Ordered a pork chop and honestly was super impressed tons of flavor and super moist! Definitely gonna make it back in!

Posting this again since my first one didn’t work. As a lad originally from East Yorkshire, Hull that now lives in land-locked Indiana, it’s a real struggle to find good fish and chips. I had heard from customers at work that Payne’s was the place to go if I was missing home food.

So the wife and I hopped in the car and made the two hour drive for our birthdays with our 2 year old baba!

It was worth the drive! The fish and chips were superb! My wife’s pulled pork sandwich was massive and my kid loved her grilled cheese. The staff were friendly and polite, waitress was awesome and another thing I always notice when I eat out, the cleanliness was 10/10.

My only gripe is that you don’t have another location on the SW side since we’re in Mooresville. The drive is a pain but it’s worth it for Payne’s!

This was a super pleasant experience for us. The decor was so fun and went with the theme. The stained glass window was definitely a beautiful sight to see. The sweet potato soup was an absolute delight! Highly suggest it!

Upon my arrival 20191020 I was worried that at 410pm on a Sunday as to the legitimaticy of the location as the restaurant was almost empty inside and out with exception of one other couple.

The hostess was not present at first and apologizes to me when she arrived upon her tardiness.

Seated outside under a large and pleasant awning we began.

Complimentary chips (store bought) and black bean dip (made in house) is flavorful and very solid bean flavored. Not over-spiced at all.

As per my usual I started with dessert which in the case of today was a sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream and an earl grey tea. Ice cream was good with flecks of vanilla. Sticky toffee was sweet, creamy, and fluffy warm while not too hot. Very good toffee flavor while still letting the cake present. Tea was store bought but still good.

Next was a sweet potato with apple with ginger soup with creme fraiche garnish and a toast point. Sight sour from the ginger and tart from the apples with good pureed sweet potato flavor with minimal additional spices to enhance the flavor.

I finished the meal with an order of the fish and chips. Icelandic cod in "traditional crispy batter". Shell was crunchy and fish was slightly acidic. No lemon was provided. The tartar sauce was one of the better ones I have had. Chips appear to be hand cut and are fried to proper crispness. I was surprised that malt vinegar was not provided.

Overall - Portion sizes are not huge but they are not out of line with the prices listed. Definitely recommend this place if you are able to visit.

Side note - By the leave of my visit at 515pm all but 1 table outside were full.

This was such a nice break from the average roadside chains you typically find off the interstate. The billboard doesn't give directions so it takes a few minutes to fgure out where it is. The vegetable dishes were fresh and flavorful. The fish and chips were truly the best I've ever had!

I wanted to come here mainly to taste the fish and chips and it exceeded my expectations. Generally the food and server(s) were great. Neat little place and will be going there again. I highly recommend Payne’s!!

Well I finally got to go to Paynes and it did not disappoint,The raspberry potato salad with fresh spinach was amazing. Then I was torn between the fish and chips or the English curry so I got both and took one home. Atmosphere was friendly waitress was attentive coffee was fresh prices were very good.I will be back for the bangers and mash

Absolutely LOVE Paynes! Found it on a journey to Indianapolis -- the billboards caught our eye and I'm so glad they did. I have tried several sandwiches and soups on subsequent trips and all have been tasty.

My husband always orders the fish and chips and says it's the best he's ever had. I would love to have their salsa recipe -- although it's free it's the best salsa I've ever had.
