My sister and I greatly enjoyed our lunch at Payne’s! The portion sizes were surprisingly large. We each needed to-go boxes. The flavors are rich and filling, and the menu offers a unique variety of options. We had no complaints, only praise for the service, taste, and presentation we received. The sticky toffee pudding is incredible! Don’t leave without trying it.

Our only disappointment was a strong sewage smell in the women’s restroom, which was otherwise spotless. Fumes raise concerns for me about safety, but there was nothing else problematic in the environment.

Small but pretty good food. Nothing fancy just laid-back atmosphere. I tried the Bangers and Mash, it was really good. My wife had the club with brie cheese. She enjoyed it. I hear their Fish and Chips are the thing to have, so I guess we'll have to go back.

From the outside, this time of the year at least, it looks a little sketch. However, inside, it's very welcoming and warm looking. The food was fantastic 😋 and service was pretty good as well. Definitely worth trying for sure! It's very nice to have a unique menu. 👌

We met family members here that recommended it... doesn't look like much at first ... but the service, the food, the atmosphere, and the desserts were fantastic! They featured alot of local brews and foods and I really appreciated that too. We'll plan to return!

This place is a hidden treasure. After seeing the billboards for years I decided to stop on a rainy afternoon for a 2pm lunch. You feel like you're in Europe when you walk in and the food does not disappoint. The small helping of fish and chips is actually quite large. Great side dishes too. Highly recommended!

First time and it was amazing. The Fish and Chips were great. Never had Fattoush, but it was outstanding. The service was excellent and efficient. It was definitely worth the 40 mile drive.

The Chips were perfectly seasoned with malt vinegar so that they remained crisp. I’m going back for more. There is so much more on there menu that I can’t wait to try.

Gas City Indiana - who knew?!?!
Highway billboard boasting British fare. It's Friday - we're looking for fish - why not!
Friendly greeting when we walked in. Very tidy and cozy eatery.
The menu wasn't extravagant, but suffice variety making us wish we ate meat on Fridays!!!
Server brought black bean dip and chips to start.
We ordered and our meal was delivered expeditiously. Cooked perfectly. Not greasy! We paid the upchufoe the mashed peas.
Not sure what they put in the tartar sauce, but it's delicious.
Our salad was fattoush!
Hubs enjoyed a Haze Stupid and I enjoyed a Strongbow cider.
All lovely.

We're traveling and once again got lucky and found a non-chain restaurant and a wonderful dining experience!

A really unique little British Pub style restaurant that hasn't changed all that much since the 1st time I visited them. Years ago, they were surrounded by empty fields, and now they are surrounded by new hotels, gas stations, and a growing commercial area. While Payne's has grown in size, their food is still based on British Pub food. My dinner partner had the Beef Stew and Yorkshire pudding followed by Rhubarb Crunch with ice cream for dessert. I had the Banger and Mash for dinner and Sticky Toffee with Cream for my meal. As always the wait staff were friendly and helpful. I will definitely reroute myself to Gas City Indiana the next time I am in the area.

A little pricey for my normal haunts, but amazing fish and chips, with a massive piece of crispy, lightly breaded fish expertly cooked. Nice assortment of local craft beers too. Service was excellent, friendly, and fast. If the rest of the menu is even close to the fish's quality then you can't go wrong.

We were referred to Paynes by Lenny at the James Dean museum. We weren't disappointed. Really nice pub atmosphere, comfortable patio seating and some delicious food. They have a nice variety of beer and cocktails, the food was unique and really tasty and the staff was friendly. Five stars for finding such a gem of a pub, and a Garfield, on our recent road trip!
