The Chocolate Moose

The Chocolate Moose is my favorite ice cream place in Bloomington. They have vegan ice cream options which is pretty luxurious coming from a hometown with nothing but digestive destroying dairy. This place is perfect for a hot summer day!

I went back after a few back-and-forth messages with Mr. Davis. Props to a gentleman who cares about customers and the brand! I was hesitant to return after what happened the last time. Instead of going in I went to the walk-up window. I don't recall the woman's name but she was very friendly and helpful. Hopefully the last time was a fluke. Could be bad staff. Lord knows everyone's having trouble keeping good people working right now. But I was pleasantly surprised at this girl's conduct after what happened the last time I was there. I won't avoid the Chocolate Moose in the future. They DO have killer ice cream. Hopefully one day The Incident will be buried under enough visits that it won't even surface as a memory. But truly, it only takes one bad employee to ruin a place for someone. I have a bit more faith in TCM after dealing with this lady today.

I've never been so dissatisfied with the Chocolate Moose staff in my life. I grew up going there with my grandpa and when my sister came to town we went to get ice cream for everyone there because I recommended it. We drove there, went in and ordered for everyone. They brought half of our order, the ice cream the wrong size. What got my attention first though was the "chocolate shake" they tried to pass to me. The girl came out hollering for a chocolate fudge and vanilla and when no one claimed it I asked if they could have mistaken the chocolate shake for that. She said it must have been mine and tried to hand it to me. It was literally a vanilla hot fudge sundae in a cup. I told her what I ordered was supposed to be a chocolate shake. The girl tried to convince us it was a shake and I told her it wasn't even mixed. She left with it and another one handed my sister her order which was, thankfully, correct. They brought a cup out and said it was the shake. I opened the lid and it was the same fudge sundae they tried to pass the first time. I asked a different woman if we could get the chocolate shake to complete the order and she shrugged and walked off. Another woman came around the corner and we spoke to her. She left with the "shake" and came back ten minutes later after filling several other orders that were placed behind us. Opened it and it's the same dang sundae. So I paid for two shakes and a large ice cream. I got a shake, a fudge sundae and a small ice cream. I've never walked away from there so disappointed and disatisfied with the service. Honestly, I know mistakes get made in high speed professions and I am patient enough to work through them. They didn't even try. This was completely awful. It wasn't a "well everyone has off says" it was legitimately terrible. An off day? I get it. Make it right eventually I'll come back. But this? They've lost our business, and stained years of memories.

This long time Bloomington landmark has been relocated inside a modern business area and looks very nice. There are now indoor and outdoor seating areas for you to enjoy your sweet treats. The prices are higher than before. As one would imagine the need to pay for relocation/ rent. The Ice cream is still good, but the staff doesn't seem as friendly and engaging as before. Much more a business than a local gem. Overall a nice treat for the kids, but not as appealing for regular visits.

At most ice cream shops you can see them placing the ice cream on the cone but not at this place. It took more than five minutes, after placing the order, to get three ice cream cones. It was worth the wait. The small cones are large. The employees are nice.

Easily the worst ice cream I’ve ever had. Ordered the vegan chocolate flavor and it was severely freezer burned. I won’t be coming back.

Best I've cream in town with delicious vegan options. My go to ice cream place for decades!

I absolutely love the Chocolate Moose! Creating new kinds of Cheesecake by pairing different flavors is my new obsession! The lavender frappe is amazing as is the veggie burger💙💛💙 I try to visit this place at least once a week if not more!

It is a lovely place to eat ice cream. I love the different kinds of ice cream and it's a lovely place to hang out with your friends. Definitely my favorite ice cream place. I just had Chocolate Moose today and it was amazing. Thank you for making the best ice cream place ever.

Great Strawberry ice cream and Lemon Custard...but were out if frozen yogurt. So 4 outta 5. Recommend still.

What is there not to like about the Moose? We've been eating ice cream there for 30+ yrs. This place is an institution! Much loved by locals and IU students. Ice cream is good as are the dairy free options & we all love the eyeballs on our cones! New location 2 doors down now offers indoor seats & restrooms. Service is good too.
