The Chocolate Moose

Old school ice cream vendor serving classics like sundaes, floats and milk shakes. The line can be very long and the service incredibly slow. Popular with college students. Wonderful in the summer when they are gone.

Delicious homemade ice cream. The grasshopper and chocolate moose are both 👌. Not the same retro charm as the old location, but the good vibes are carried on with old pics and a decent indoor seating space. Shakes are killer too. A Bloomington staple for sure.

I was saddened that they closed the original Chocolate Moose to put up more and more high-end apartments, but the new Chocolate Moose is great without waiting outside in a line. I recommend the Blizz made with coffee ice cream, hot fudge and peanut butter. Great combination of flavors.

The ice cream is great, vegan options as well. I actually really like the vegan grasshopper ice cream that I tried, it was so rich! They have other food options as well, the Frenchie is pretty good when you just need something savory after all that sweet ice cream. Everytime my father in law comes to town we end up getting a sack of them. Try the Spanish burger!

Neither of us thought the ice cream was very good, unfortunately. Not much taste in either flavor. The recipe seems to have changed over time since we used to enjoy cooking here.

Ice cream is great. Since they moved, staff discourteous and unhelpful. Gave me wrong information several times. Good thing the ice cream sells itself. A small squirt of pesto does not a turkey and pesto sandwich make, though it was tasty with lots of turkey. Barely visible pesto. Please try again.

New building, same delicious tastes. Chocolate Moose is a Btown landmark and a summer tradition. The flavor menu is simple, but they get ice cream right every time. They're known for their Chocolate Moose flavor (chocolate and peanut butter chunks), but I really enjoy their Lemon Custard or Strawberry.

Staff was very friendly. Ice cream was fantastic! Actually went here 3 times during my 5 day visit.

I've eaten here a few times, good coffee food and ice cream. Long waits but worth it.

I hate to leave a bad review for a normally good local business but I'm kinda paranoid about moldy food (i always throw out bread the day it expired lol) and today I got turkey pesto sandwich and was eating as I was driving. About half way through I noticed a dime sized area of mold (i posted a pic on here in their photos). I drove back and they gave me refund and $5 gift card. The manager seemed truly sorry about it but I'd much rather not have eaten moldy food than have $5 and my time wasted.

Bread is such an easy cheap thing to throw out and replace when it's out of date that it makes me nervous about all the other ingredients now. Not to mention this is what you can actually see. If they're not noticing large mold it's hard for me to trust the food here. I'll still drop in for coffee and ice cream...
