Durango has a ton of coffee shops.

However, THIS is the one that I recommend you stop at. With an in-house chocolatier making delightful chocolates all day, and then combining those chocolates in creative ways is even better.

I sampled their homemade hot chocolate. I've never had better.

They also serve locally roasted coffee, and are meticulous with how it is made. attention to detail is what sets a coffee shop apart, and this place does not disappoint.

Our party had hot chocolate, one of their spicy mochas, and a pour over. Each was sampled, and each was delicious.

I travel full-time, and am in a lot of unique establishments. This certainly hits as one of the high points of any of the shops that I've been to. I highly recommend you stop in.

When we walked in we were greeted by knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff. Stopped for coffee and left with much more!

Best. Hot Chocolate. Ever. They even have vegan options. The friendly staff, and the open yet rooted historical ambiance is perfection... but their hot chocolate and VEGAN hot chocolate are the whipped cream & cherry on top of this amazing place as each sip transports you to heaven! Definitely recommend... it’s MUST try guys! We love this place. Consistently amazing. Every. Single. Time.

This place is great and they make the hot chocolate themselves. It was a bit sweet but very good. The whipped cream was just right. Everything seems very upscale and the service is excellent. I highly recommend trying this place out. I definitely hope to be back in the future!

Stopped in to have some hot chocolate on a chilly day, and it was probably the best hot chocolate I've ever had! The kids got the peppermint hot chocolate while my husband and I got La Bandita Express. It was the perfect amount of spice.

This was a wildly unique & tasty experience. The customer service was outstanding! We've been traveling the country for months, no one comes close to the two guys behind the counter. They knew everything about their products and seemed genuinely happy to get you in the chocolate state of mind. The drinking chocolates were delicious and we got a variety of chocolates to go. The boozy ones are so yum.

The staff at Animas were very friendly and helpful when it came to making choices on what to get. The hot chocolate is the very best. We extended our trip a day just to be able to visit one more time. I also highly recommend the whiskey lemonade!

Chocolate and coffee! Can’t get better than this! The tour was for an hour and it was absolutely amazing! Highly recommend the tour if you are in Durango! The truffles and hot chocolate were the best!

It has taken me a few days to process the truly unkind and unnecessary actions of whom I assume was the manager of Animas Chocolate and Coffee that occurred on 12/9/22. My twin toddlers were having a difficult time and simultaneously throwing a tantrum, as toddlers tend to do. As any parent knows, this is the absolute last thing you want to deal with especially when you are in a public place. What occurred next still dumbfounds me and disappoints me beyond measure. The “manager” approached our table aggressively, placing both hands on the table and began to both lecture and scold my husband and I on the tantrums our toddlers were throwing. His exact words were “that we need to mitigate this situation.” We were aware, and are aware that no one wants to hear screaming children but we were doing the best that we could in that moment after just barely receiving our coffee and hot chocolate. It shocked us and quite frankly upset me to the core. The manager made us very aware that we were not welcome in this place of business and that we should leave because we were not the only patrons in the store and we were ruining it for everyone else. I would like to add that this all occurred within maybe a 10 minute max time period. I can honestly say that this was one of my biggest nightmares as a parent coming to fruition; my child upset and having a difficult time and a stranger being nothing but cruel and judgmental. This person made an already difficult situation an impossible one. He did not help mitigate this situation whatsoever and instead made it 100x worse. My family and I will not be back to visit this once loved shop by us. If you have young children, or remember what it’s like to have young children, I encourage you to spend your money elsewhere.

Such a delightful atmosphere, delicious truffles and the most amazing hot chocolate ever! My go to for gift giving. The owners really make you feel like part of the family.
