Dinner tonight with family and….. the most amazing soup I have ever tasted. The lobster toast appetizer was equally as delicious. The mushroom soup though was truly the best. I had the special fish, which was delicious, others had the short ribs, lobster fettuccine and salmon. Everything was simply wonderful. Thank you so much for a great night with my family.

This restaurant was fantastic. I ordered the steak fritz and it was perfectly cooked and came with 2 different types of fries. I also highly recommend the Gimlet. Service was pleasant, and quick. A definite must go to when I'm in the area.

Had dinner at The French Goat a week ago now and still can't seem to stop dreaming about it! A beautiful little restaurant, almost small enough to miss if you weren't looking for it, however, it would be a HUGE mistake to pass this up. Delicious food, top level service and hospitality to complete the perfect experience. I recommend the duck and the Basque Cheesecake :-) Do yourself a favor a make a reservation, now!

Merci mille fois pour un diner exceptionnel! A la prochaine!

The food was very good and the chef should receive highest compliments. If I was rating only on food, there'd have to be a higher star rating than five.

That said, the customer service was largely awful. The individual who seated us (who was later revealed to be the owner) told us when we asked for seating by the fountain "That's not going to happen" in a very nasty tone of voice. A little taken aback, I figured they were either short staffed or the space was booked and shrugged it off.

We were seated outdoors on the porch and brought water by the assistant. After a few minutes, we received menus and the waiter gave us the specials. We ordered drinks and food (through about three separate transactions).

All but one item that arrived was brought out by someone other than the waiter, who also never checked back in with us after taking the last food order despite walking past us multiple times to chat and tend to the table past us. Since we were largely tended by one of the helpers, we tipped him cash ($20) before we got our check since we felt he'd given the best service.

We waited about ten minutes before the waiter came by and said he would get the desert menu. Another ten or so minutes of him going in and out dealing with closing other tables before he brought the dessert menu. At this point we were pretty frustrated, but continue to wait. Finally, after agreeing we really weren't in the mood for desserts anymore I went in and asked for a split check.

Which we were told they can't do by food item. I looked over our bill and it was roughly an even split anyway, so we agreed to a 50-50 split.

We marked on the checks when we signed that we'd left a cash tip and left a few dollars for the regular server and headed out.

About ten minutes later we received a call from a man from the restaurant (1030pm at this point) He wanted to know if there was anything wrong with the order. I told him the food was amazing ("good, good") and that we'd received excellent service from the gentleman with the water, who we had tipped cash before leaving. He told me that it was that man's first day and I responded that he had done an excellent job and I was very impressed. He said that it was custom to tip 20% to the waiter. I said that since we had received the most service from the other man, we chose to tip him.

He was obviously irate at this point and asked if there was anything else wrong with the visit. I told him about the manager who greeted us and the bad tone and feeling it set.

He exploded. He informed that was HIM and that he is the OWNER. That we should NEVER COME BACK.

No worries friend. We won't.

Excellent experience at The French Goat. Server was very thorough in explaining the specials and wine list. They also helped us make decisions based off the questions we asked. We ordered a bottle of red wine first. The Dom. Georges Vernay, Cote-Rotie. We had half a dozen raw oysters and escargot for appetizers. Both were incredible... I always have a few reservations when ordering raw oysters from a restaurant in an inland state... However, they were very fresh and were of great quality. Very mild brine and texture. The escargot was delicious as well. The mushroom soup was exceptional. For dinner we had Tenderloin Rossini as well as Duck Cassoulet. The dessert of cheesecake and chocolate mousse was a great finish to the meal. The overall mood and tone of the restaurant was relaxed and unpretentious although still held good standards. Would definitely return for another meal when in the area next time.

The price to quality was ridiculous. If this were in any other major city the prices without be 2-3 higher for the same quality. Just ordered appetizers (tartare & goat cheese) with wine and cider. The bread was tasty and had an excellent texture. Since we were only so hungry we wanted something light and the appetizers were very filling. I’ve eaten in many places in France and if you told me I was in a restaurant in Paris I would have believed you. I want to come back with an empty stomach to enjoy a main course here. Service was also excellent with not one issue.

Everything was excellent, except for my steak. It was absolutely perfect in the middle, it's just that the outside was seared a little too much and I was left with a charred flavor. It really wasn't bad enough to send back or make a complaint about, so I didn't bother. The appetizers and the bread were absolutely fantastic. The drinks were outstanding and the service stood out on its own. I would definitely recommend dining here for any special occasion.

Sorry I forgot to take photos! Our shared plates were so lovely, we just tucked in and finished the smoked trout pavé and fromage four before I even thought about my phone. My friend and I spent the weekend in Lewisburg for an event at Carnegie Hall. We asked around for recommendations to have drinks and appetizers and The French Goat kept coming up. And we were so glad we went there. Jess was our cocktail artist and she created a unique Old Fashioned that was the best ever. Food, atmosphere, staff were all superb.
