The only thing wrong with Java Jacks is the it's described as a Coffee House. Though the coffee is first class, it is so much more than that.
My wife and I stumbled upon it on one of those "wandering around" trips we occasionally take from our home in Glen Allen (roughly 50 miles southwest). Today we visited for a second time--this time on purpose.
Big picture: Java Jacks looks to be a house converted to a restaurant so the scale and feel is particularly homey. Today, we sat on what, originally, would have been the wrap-around front porch--now a bright, windowed room. The walls are decorated with vintage porcelain signs and the tables are draped with colorful fabrics.
The service is just what you'd want it to be, attentive and friendly. The food, (I can speak for the fish and chips) was fresh, hot, and perfectly cooked--golden brown, crispy fillets and waffle-cut fries served in a paper bag--accompanied by a side order of homemade slaw (guessing on that) and a tangy tartar sauce.
I hate to sound so effusive, but I get such a charge out of places like this--small businesses that seem willing to spend the time and energy necessary to do things well, to pay attention to the details, and to do it all with a smile.
We'll be back.

I like it because it was like being in a old country house it even had a porch and distressed furniture .I was sent back to the days when there was no tv.the food was good but I ordered a oyster basket. It consisted of 6 small oysters they was absolutely delicious but I think a basket could at least be 12. I can eat I had a salad and it included coleslaw that was in a tiny cocktail sauce cup and it had no taste. I left very hungry but the others that was with me seemed very satisfied.

The Jack's brought back amazing memories of Zeppoles. The omelet (spinach, crab meat, pepper jack cheese, onion and bacon) was amazing! We'll definitely be doing back!

Everything about Java Jacks is delightful. The service is great, the location is charming, and the food is tasty. The shop owner is so friendly and pleasant. I spent an hour and a half here, having a working lunch, and she made sure I had everything I needed, including the WiFi password. Be sure to get the Jack--it truly is a treat! Can't wait to return!

A wonderful little spot half way to mommas house to meet at for brunch/lunch. Food is really good and prices are reasonable. Everyone there is very friendly. The main entrance is thru the kitchen so you can see what you are getting. It's charming!

This was our second trip after a few years and they've only gotten better. This is a cozy house right on Rt. 17 with seat-yourself tables and a small outside deck. They are primarily a breakfast (all day) cafe with many options amd also lunch (from 11am-3pm). They are really flexible with orders and the food is tasty and well prepared. You have to try the "Jacks" that are a more northern version of a beignet - little pillows of tender fried dough. The coffee is excellent and they have also have espresso drinks. The pancakes weren't that great - sweet with taste like a yellow-cake batter and they fell apart with syrup on them. And I wish they had real maple syrup...minor issues.
I ordered a fried oyster (8) basket to go and they are quite possibly the best fried oysters I've ever had I've been eatign fried oyesters for my entire life. They are perfectly fried (not greasy) with a light cornmeal and flour crust. Big , meaty and tasty Rappahannock oysters with excellent cocktail and tartar sauce for only 11 bucks. Awesome!
There's no shortage of competent and friendly staff here and they don't appear to have suffered from COVID troubles like so many other restaurants. The kitchen is tiny and they male the most of it.

Java Jacks is a great cafe with wonderful food and service. They not only have a great breakfast and lunch menu, but they support our community in a number of ways. I'm thankful to have such a wonderful business in town!
