Tasty breakfast sandwiches and delicious coffee!

I placed a mobile order in the hopes that I would not have to stand outside for 20 minutes. That didn’t happen and I ended up wasting a lot of time that I didn’t have to waste. Customers who placed orders after me were served much quicker. I waited as 3 new orders were placed and served. Mine was still nowhere in sight. Exactly 20 minutes after my order was placed, I finally received it.
This is not good customer service and makes mobile ordering useless.

These guys are the bomb! I was just looking at their menu (i didnt know theyd just closed) and the guy opened the windows and asked me if I wanted anything. These guys are super dedicated and have a great customer realation. Goodbye starbucks, hello Black Hand. Yall got yourselves a regular now.

I bought this brand coffee whole bean espresso at the market at 25 and it was the worst coffe I have ever had. I am not too picky about my coffee but I couldn’t drink this stuff. The beans were a dry light brown and my coffee had very little flavor and looked light brown. I paid $11.95 for this stuff and I can’t find anywhere that there is a money back policy. To add insult to injury I later found out that my boyfriend had the same experience last year when he purchased the same coffee at Union Market. He sent an email to the company and they never responded. DON’T BUY IT! IT IS A RIP-OFF!

This is an OK coffee shop. The bagels and coffee are delicious but the person serving the food was rude. The seating area is very small, and there are virtually zero outlets. Also, the wifi was extremely slow. I probably will not come back to this location :/

Cute little shop with local art on the walls. Good coffee and the barista was friendly.

May have just gotten a bad grind. Purchased the Sumatra coffee. Using a Rancilio grinder set at 30, the beans seemed to fracture, rather than grind to a sandy powdery grind. My wife described the taste as weird. I made the next batch twice as strong to bring out flavor; a little better, but not good. The flavor was similar to the way the bag smelled. I think the beans may have been over roasted and absorbed the bag flavor. The staff was very friendly and helpful (thus 3 stars). Think I just got a bad roast.
Just want to update this post. The Black Hand Coffee Co is a 5+ star outfit who are genuinely concerned with their taking care of their customers. Emailing Graham Glass, he corrected the problem by fixing me up with a freshly roasted batch. He did so, although he did not see the bag I purchased. He gave me a recommendation based on what I wanted in a roast. You couldn't ask for better customer service. By the way, I really didn't know what I wanted. I'm very new in purchasing beans and didn't know which roast to go for. Graham, thanks for your help, recommendation and consideration.
UDATE:
Just want to say the MD6 blend Graham recommended is very good and I highly recommend it. Coffee doesn't get any better than this....

Cute hip spot with good corner people watching location and very close to the VMFA for a stroll. Wish they had almond milk in their fridge. Also a sign on the fridge inviting you to open it and use the milk would have been nice but standing around you see others do it. Meh. Food was tasty and bagel was fresh!

I agree with Kelly who said the coffee tasted watered down. I also thought the flavor was disagreeable. Neither my husband nor I could drink it. This is our first time here and we bought a coffee to go and didn't try it until we were several miles down the road. the Barista was personable; we just didn't like the coffee at all.

Black Hand is a cool little neighborhood coffee shop. The coffee is rich and the chai is creamy. They also have great bagels. There is usually a line, especially on the weekend. But the coffee is worth the wait.
