Small, eclectic, and one of the top places in Richmond! This is my favorite shop in town for the amazing flavors they get out of their regional collections. Not too many bells and whistles to cover up mediocre coffee, they let their roasting process shine.

The one unfortunate thing is that their space is very small, so it’s not the ideal place for a long conversation or work session.

Black Hand Coffee Co was the first local coffee shop I visited after moving to Virginia. I love the cozy atmosphere. What really impresses me is the knowledge of the staff, which was well expressed through the execution of my latte. This place will not disappoint!

Stopped by here a couple times here and there on trips to Richmond, thought the place had a decent atmosphere and served above mediocre coffee. Nothing to write home about, but it's a coffee shop that serves its purpose. Staff seemed great. Each time they were super personable to me, even at early hours in the morning when both of us were likely hungover. However, for whatever reason the most recent time I stopped through the coffee left a very noticable leather after-taste in my mouth. It was completely undrinkable, an extremely pungent leather taste. It might be because the owner is a bootlicker, but I didn't think that would translate to the taste of the coffee. Boy, was I wrong.

Great coffee, friendly service, in a cool spot.

I was excited to find a local coffee shop easy walking distance from VMFA, but quite disappointed by the coffee. The self-serve coffee was weak, and (worse) lukewarm. I got it to go, so didn't realize until I had already left. Barista wasn't rude, but wasn't overly friendly, either. Prices seemed very reasonable, though, and it's cute spot.

I love the quaint location of this coffee shop. The smell of roasting coffee beans added to the ambiance, as did the free street-side library in front. The menu offers a good variety of coffee-based drinks as well as breakfast-style pastries. I highly recommend the iced coffee. It was perfectly flavored with no bitterness at all.

Do not bother using their “online order” options if you’re going to pickup yourself unless you have time to kill. They don’t bother to check/confirm your order until you walk in and some employees don’t even know how to use it.

Had to take a quick pit stop while chasing around the marathon runners and this was the perfect spot! Was not expecting such a delicious cup of coffee, but I was o so presently surprised! Only window service at this time!

The location is nice and the coffee is good, on the same level as Rostov's, but the staff are terrible. I expect a little bit of hipster arrogance at a local coffee shop in this part of town, but these folks seem to sit outside most of the day smoking with their friends, only going into the shop when a customer arrives. Once you get their attention (and they will finish that story first, thanks), they give you the impression that the shop runs the best without any customers in it. Not only have I stopped visiting the shop, I won't even buy the beans at Whole Foods because I'm not interested in helping such a badly managed business.

The Chai lattes are much much better than Starbucks and we go almost every weekend for the bagel sandwiches. The Bacon, Egg and Cheese bagel is my favorite. The bagels are fresh and exactly how they should be. Excellent coffee as well. There's not much room inside to sit but there's a few tables and some benches outside.
