Red Hen Baking

Red Hen makes the best bread in Vermont and the cafe is a nice place to grab a bite and a coffee and hang out. They've got WiFi and are laptop friendly, and the staff is great. Breakfast sandwiches and pastries are really good. Small selection of lunch sandwiches but all very tasty. Just don't tell anyone else about it because this is a hidden gem and I'd like it to stay that way.

Fabulous breakfast! I grabbed dessert to go because I saw the dessert menu on the table and couldn't resist one to try later- maple cheesecake! It was delicious! Great portions, good prices, great atmosphere, and the staff is very friendly and helpful! I will definitely be back! Something for everyone, from the picky eater (I had one in my group) or vegetarian or someone who just wants something traditional to eat. I highly recommend this place!

I have a food allergy that makes eating bread a serious gamble if I don't know the ingredients. I asked about the ingredients and the person at the front was so helpful and friendly. After consulting a baker, it turned out that I could eat one of the loaves without worry and I bought it. This was the first loaf of bread I've bought from a bakery in over a decade and it was amazing.

Best overall food establishment in Vermont hands down, and I do NOT say that lightly! We stop almost every time we pass it on 89, and sometimes plan hikes so it is "coincidentally" on the way. Sandwiches, bread, pastries, coffee+tea, and now creemees. Have never had a bad experience here. Everything is delicious, the staff are incredibly friendly and hardworking, and they have a great social justice mission. My highlights are breakfast sandwiches (insanely good deal for the quality), kouign amann pastries, maple lattes, and cold brew creemees. Best creemee in VT, with bonus points for local dairy and local wheat for the handmade cone. Unsurprising that they'd give creemees a whirl this summer and knock it out of the park.

Our first time at Red Hen was amazing! My party of three had the breakfast sandwich with bacon. It was delicious. Their assortment of bakery items was fantastic and looked delectable! I'm not from the area, but cant wait to come back

Where’s the meat? While the Bakery has been making OUTSTANDING bread for many years, we stopped at the Middlesex Cafe Saturday to pick up sandwiches for a picnic. We used the handy online preorder format, and swung by to pick up the sandwiches. Both of us ordered The Turkey sandwich and I would have thought they mistook our order for a vegetarian sandwich, except that both sandwiches had the thinnest sliver of Turkey that I have ever seen on a ‘Turkey’ sandwich. No wonder their website offers the option to ‘Add more Turkey’, but for almost $10.00, I expect more than 2 slices of their wonderful bread, some Mayo, a leaf of lettuce and a TINY bit of turkey

Fabulous food, fabulous associates, easily accessible location. And, unique creemie flavors, such as Earl Grey, which are simply amazing.

A few Vermont based odds and ends make it a nice stop for tourists and Vermonters alike. Stop by the next time you are zipping by the Middlesex/Moretown exit on I-89. You'll be glad you did!

Delicious and worth the extra $$. This is literally my favorite breakfast spot in all of VT. Their bakery is top notch, and the bread is delicious and fresh. That being said, don’t go here if you’re in a hurry, even when they are slow (meaning the line is you and one other person) it can take them 30mins to slap cheese on some toasted bread. They can be very very very slow. Just order an already made amazing pastry and it’ll only take them 10-15mins to get your order up.

What wonderful and quality artisan flavors and choices. Their breads, pastries, and sandwiches are to die for. You will not be disappointed with this quality of food level.
