This place was really cool! Small cafe set up in an old house and definitely has a nice cozy feeling to it. My buddy and I stopped in during our bike-packing trip and were not disappointed. While VT does have a lot of good coffee, it can be difficult to find a good cafe (with great coffee), and this place was one of them! Hard to say if I'll be back as I don't ever come to Middlebury but I would recommend the visit if you're in town!

Outstanding coffee as good as any I have had, anyplace. These folks are the real deal! Also, it is comfortable and welcoming, and the pastries are excellent. Love Onyx Tonics in Burlington? You'll love Royal Oak, too.

The espresso is good. The place feels a bit like a hallway. Not conducive to settling down for a convo.

Considering both the atmosphere and the quality of coffee, I cannot say enough good things about this place. As a coffee lover, the coffee at Royal Oak and The Lost Monarch have surpassed each and every coffee shop I have found anywhere else. I have been to upwards of 100 coffee shops - whether in Honduras, Wisconsin, California, New York, or here in Vermont. I may be biased (haha) as I have been going to these two places most of 2019/2020. However, once you try any one of their coffees and get to talking with the owners, I'm certain you will develop the same love for these people and places as I have. Thank you for creating these beautiful spaces <3

Wow. From the moment you walk through the door you are immersed in a wonderful stylized space. The decor is thoughtful and tasteful. Aless and Matt are very approachable without trying to sell anything but an experience . I love espresso and theirs is great. Best part of the whole shop, the time the owners take with each customer. If you have not been here yet, please do yourself a favor and make the time.

Royal Oak has become our go-to coffee shop in Middlebury, with 3-5 visits/week. They consistently have good espresso-based drinks and are spot-on with their bean recommendations.

Mediocre coffee, unhelpful staff, unconformable limited seating. They sold me a terribly dry and inedible muffin and when I complained, they only responded with a mumbled sorry. No offer to do anything about it. They didn't have whipped cream but do have cbd for the coffee, so they easily attract hipster-wannabe crowds. Terrible place to bring kids too. No effort to accommodate any needs or requests at all. Maybe I expected more, having heard high praise from others about the place, but it was a huge disappointment.

Amazing, just like that, we have amazing coffee in Middlebury. This is the coffee shop many of us locals have been pining for. I'm grateful to the these folks for the care and expertise they invest in their product. Long may they prosper!

One of the best lattes I've ever had.
