Mixed thoughts. They were understaffed but worked hard. The food was good but not great. It was a good ways out of town but mostly full. Probably not on my must do list and need to try more places to know if I would recommend over others.

The atmosphere and history are very interesting and eye-catching. The staff was friendly and prompt enough, given the busyness. The food was overpriced for the quality and quantity. (My menu might be pre-inflation prices. It's been a couple months since our visit.)

We went on our Honeymoon and let me just say - the best hole in the wall place!!! We got to have crab eggs Benedict that literally melted, the Greek cheese appetizer that I am still craving, and the dessert was heavenly! The day we were there - the owner, Johnny (who was the original band member of Asleep of the Wheel)had a concert! That was such an amazing treat!!! If you are near, please do yourself a favor and stop in. The food is delish!!

The decoration and history are interesting and fun to check out. The waitstaff are very friendly and attentive. They pass by often but are not intrusive and know the menu items and are helpful with suggestions.
If you come on a night with music, be aware that the volume is so very high one will not be able to hear any of one’s company; unless that is the idea- it will not be a nice night. Several of us left with headaches and sore throats.
They had nice appetizers. The bread and feta cheese were really good, but again the appetizers were a bit pricy for the quantity.
The food was tasty and had some interesting menu items. t was a bit overpriced for the quality, but definitely for the quantity. The burgers were small but good. Truffle fries were delicious. The stuffed peppers were also flavorful, however, the side was white rice which is part of the stuffing for the pepper- they could have used a garlic mashed or even zucchini or other veggies in a nice butter and herbs.
The outside areas were open and offered a reprieve from the loud music. The bathrooms were very clean and well kept.
Overall we enjoyed the food, but didn’t find the experience earth shattering.

Such a great little find off 87 right before you get into Fredericksburg! I had the crab cake benedict and a bloody mary both were delicious. We went on a Sunday morning and there was already a line before they opened, but the service was great.

Great experience from the beginning. The staff were friendly. Food was delicious. Some of the menu ingredients were local, so you can taste the difference. We appreciated the drinks! The dining area has options. Overall, smart choice to visit and eat at Hill Top Cafe.

I gave the food 3 stars only because I have food allergies and have trouble finding items I can eat. And with a limited menu, I really struggle. But with that being said, Johnny was amazing. So cool that the owner is so extremely talented. The live music and interaction with the patrons was very cool 😎. We didn't know about the cover charge before the bill came, but I think $10/person is fair, and our local musicians need funding.

While in Fredericksburg we met a sweet gentlemen who recommended the hill top Cafe for breakfast. Let me say that we were not disappointed during our visit. The staff was ever so sweet. Mr. Nickles played live music on Sunday morning that was wonderful. It is about 10 miles outside of town but well worth the drive. We had a little of everything fried okra, eggs Benedict, Chicken fried chicken, a pancake, a mimosa and a bloody mary. The food was delicious. I will be ABSOLUTELY be back next time I'm in the area.

We had reservations for a Friday night, when we were told that the owner Johnny Nicholas would be performing -a major draw. Apparently the crowd wasn’t big enough so Mr. Nicholas decided to sit and talk to his buddies instead of playing. The service was indifferent. The steak and shrimp were outstanding, but the sides were cold and mushy. Same for my wife’s meal.

Had a special Valentine's dinner at Hill Top Cafe and it didn't disappoint. Food was great. Atmosphere was fun and quirky. Our waitress Tracy was delightful and put the cherry on top of our evening. Will be back next time in the Hill Country.
