Hill Top Cafe

Love this place! Whenever my wife and I are in the Fredericksburg area we make the effort to drive out to this unique restaurant. Friendly staff, great food and wonderful atmosphere. This place is a real Texas treasure, be sure to try anytime you are in the Fredericksburg/ Mason area.

I suspect this is the first review I have left in my life. This place has problems. I ordered a simple chopped steak that came with some okra/tomatoes and potatoes. Either the meat itself had gone bad or it was cooked in a microwave---or something. I'm not sure how you can screw that up so bad, but it was awful. To my surprise the okra and the potatoes were just as bad. My wife was just as amazed how bad her food was as well. We never got anyone that appeared to be old enough to be our waiter come by for us to complain. We paid our $75 bill (only had water to drink) and left that place to go back to Frediricksburg to find whataburger to get some food.

Something it not right at this place. Way overpriced even if the food was good.

We LOVED this place so much we went twice over the weekend. Quirky. Great escargot & crab cake eggs Benedict. Ya...that was on the menu in an old redone gas station. Heading back there this week & it will be the 1st place we eat at on our way to Fredericksburg! A MUST GO!

The Greek Filet was one of best steaks ever eaten, my husband's Gumbo was so good, also. We asked the waiter for advice and his recommendation was both which, both were knees buckling. This isn't fancy or dressed up. Feels local, but the food amazingly not. We got in on a rainy Saturday night and it was cozy and quiet and quickly filled up. Go eat early if you want the cozy quiet vibe... Sooooo good. The steak barely needing cutting and was perfectly Medium Rare.

We love this upscale food down home atmosphere with great music cafe. The food is incredible. The staff are so friendly. And the ambience is always fun and welcoming. You can't go wrong.

Terrible service, never even offered to refill my drink, host was a snob, food was way over priced. They think they are a gourmet restaurant in a big city and they are a quick stop in the middle of nowhere Texas. Food is not great and way over priced. Like $ 22 for a chicken breast. Needless to say, they think there something they are not and I will never be eating here again. By the way I've been ready to pay my check the whole time I've been writing my review and our waitress has walked by us 4 times. Never again, lesson learned!!

Feel like family with this family owned eatery complimented by world class musicI and local and from visiting nearby areas like Austin Louisiana and more. Live the food. If you like gumbo or steak or stuffed pork chops with a good wine selection full bar with live music and good service... This is the place!

Gem of a restaurant right outside of Fredericksburg. Great food and service. On the pricey side, but the quality and options of different food make it worth it. Very eclectic atmosphere. Place has good beer and wine selection. It's always a must go when we come down to Fredericksburg.

Feb 23. Was excited to eat here. That ended quickly. We arrived at 1:30, cafe closed at 2pm. From the moment we arrived, the waitress made us feel like an inconvenience . Sat us quickly and said she had to get our order into kitchen quick or they'd be mad. Then spent 20 minutes joking with neighbor table who apparently were regulars, but ignored us! Food was ok. Will probably avoid this place in the future even though we now spend time in Cherry Spring. Rather go to Fredericksburg for decent customer service!

Service was a little slow (especially with as few customers as were there on a Sunday night), but the food was excellent and the ambience was funky Texas great. The workers were friendly and Willie, son of owners, is quite a character. We'll bw back.
