Grumpy's Cafe

We left with out ordering food after being skipped over several times for tables that had arrived after us. We had received two beverages so we happily paid the $6 bucks to get out of that place and down the road to lakeside Hideaway(a superior restaurant in every way).

However when the charge cleared my account they had added a dollar for themselves. I know this because the charges appeared separately.

My wife really liked the choices on the breakfast menu and the meal sizes were perfect for her. I like bigger portions, but the prices are great. Wife got the one egg, sausage patty and pancakes and enjoyed it. I had the sausage breakfast burrito and it was good, but could have pounded 2 of em. Service was great and they do very well at taking care of their customers.

UNDERCOOKED FOOD!!!

We went to Grumpy's for breakfast and my daughter got the French Toast - 4 thick half slices, bacon and eggs. She finished 2 slices of french toast and most of the rest of her food. So as a good dad, I decided to help her finish some of it. I picked up a slice of french toast and was immediately curious why the under-side was soggy. I turned it over to find they had only cooked one side of the french toast!

As for the rest of the food, it was mediocre at best! Eggs were not cooked to order, pancakes were over-mixed (which develops gluten and makes them chewy instead of fluffy), and my chicken fried steak was obviously not freshly breaded and fried, but a reheated frozen patty from a bag.

The owner really is VERY GRUMPY! She brought the bill about 10 minutes into the meal. This made us feel interrupted, rushed and uncared for. Save yourself the headache from UNDERCOOKED, mediocre food and the truly grumpy owner who provides very poor service - DON'T GO TO Grumpy's!!!

Great little beach town eatery. Menu was simple, basically breakfast food and burgers/fish/chips and a few other lunch options. The food was tasty and the service was good, though it lived up to the establishments name a bit. ;).

Best breakfast place in Rockaway! The main server there is a rockstar! The service there was amazing, food was great for a good price and we will definitely be back! Special shout out to the server we saw on both our visits for taking good care of us.

Country fried steak was delicious. Staff was friendly and kind. Thank you for a wonderful breakfast experience!

Fantastic diner food. They were very understaffed (2 waiters and the cook, from what I could tell) and still managed to bang out our orders in short order.

Fluffy pancakes, super thick cut bacon, rich biscuits and gravy, and they actually managed to cook eggs over medium perfectly!

We avoided the place because of how it looks on the outside but decided to give it a go on a whim and were extremely pleased.

Cozy diner. Might have a little wait but totally worth it. Food is delicious and very well done. Don't let the name deceive you, the owner and staff are friendly. Quirky spot but in a good way. Whole family loved it!

We stopped in for breakfast only because my favorite Rockaway breakfast nook had been closed for good. The whole cafe felt grimy and I could feel the grease in the air while breathing. The food was horrible and just tasted like grease, which didn’t help the fact they got my order completely wrong. All of the utensils and condiment bottles felt to greasy and I was wiping my hands off every time I touched something. The food was bad and I brushed my teeth right when I walked in the door at home. So sad that my favorite place was gone and I hoped this place would be just as good. It wasn’t, I won’t be going again.

This restaurant was very clean the people were so kind the food was outstanding you could not ask for a better experience! They've even got some baked goods for your sweet tooth. We will definatly be going back. I should mention pricing was very fair. Love a meal that won't break you!
