The Barista “Roosevelt” makes an amazing Latte!!! I’m always happy to see him when I come in! I have been many times but the Catfish and Grits….BUSSIN!!!! So good! The French toast, shrimp and grits, Bacon egg and cheese, and the Beyu breakfast are all good! (But trust me with the catfish and grits) everyone is so pleasant. Be patient sometimes there is a wait but the music, ambiance, and coffee/drinks is worth it! Say Hi to Roosevelt and Minny when you go!

I had the Chicken & Toast and a Mexican Latte. The coffee was great! I was nervously curious about the food combo, but it was incredible, and you should definitely try it at least once. The chicken is super tender and has a great tangy sauce, and the French toast works surprisingly well with it. Don't use the ranch, though... It tastes weird with this combo and I'm not sure why they include it. Stick to the maple syrup.

I liked the vibe here. It's counter service only which didn't bother me at all. They were out of a lot of alcohol so we couldn't have sangria's or mimosas, but Josephine's lemonade is good. Pretty nice crowd around 11 and noon on a Saturday but not too busy. Families couples and friends. The food was good and we had a nice time talking, weren't rushed at all. Great location and easy to walk around town from there.

Arrived around 9:30am, not too busy. Quickly ordered at the front. Ordered a protein omelette with a side of home fries and a Mexican latte. Shared it with my friend Maria. They have water and two types of tea (sweet and unsweetened) for free. Great playlist 🙌🏽

This is such a cute, unique place. Coffee shop, restaurant, jazz lounge...what a great idea. It's a beautiful setting, the coffee and food are both delicious!! I had the shrimp and grits.

(3 stars for the food / 4.5 for the coffee and atmosphere)

Beyu is pronounced Be You, and that sense of individual character permeates this cool and comfortable spot. Conveniently located and reasonably spacious, Beyu offers a comfortable ambiance: lively without being loud.

This character extends to the menu as well, which features names to remember (Dope coffee specialties, a Chuck Berry Parfait) and fresh takes on familiar dishes (i.e. chicken wings and French toast subbing in for chicken and waffles). Hungry and tired, my wife and I opted for coffee drinks (Mexican coffee and a Carver’s Peanut Butter) and lunch items (Satchmo Po Boy and Shrimp and Grits). Everything was ordered at the register prior to seating, and service thankfully proved expeditious.

Both coffee drinks were excellent. The Mexican coffee added cinnamon, nutmeg, and chocolate to the standard brew and made for a bold and rich concoction. The Carver’s Peanut Butter combined espresso, peanut butter, steamed milk, and honey. If peanut butter in coffee causes you to raise an eyebrow, a few sips of this smooth and tasty blend will make a convert of you.

Unfortunately, the food wasn’t quite up to the same standard. The Shrimp and Grits used Italian sausage in place of Tasso ham, an odd choice but not a poor one. However, the shrimp were just short of overcooked, and the grits needed copious stirring to reach the right consistency. Thankfully, the flavor still delivered. Meanwhile, the Po Boy – actually, a pair of fried catfish sliders – featured nicely breaded fish, but the accompanying side salad sported dubious-looking lettuce.

Given the atmosphere and coffee quality, I would not hesitate to return to Beyu the next time I’m in Durham, but I might think twice about ordering lunch.

This place is fantastic. Coffee is great but that's just the beginning. The PO BOY was delicious. The staff is pleasant. Very cool environment. I had a great seat by the window providing a view of vibrant Durham. Great location and food. Go here!!??

Best breakfast I’ve ever had, and I’ve had a lot. Coffee was amazing! You never know the quality of coffee until you have it plain.

We ate breakfast here twice while in Durham. The Beyu breakfast was wonderful, the chai tea was delicious. My son enjoyed the Mexican coffee. They have dine in and take out options. Staff were friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was cozy. The art in the bathroom hall was beautiful.

Amazing food, amazing service (our waitress was Jazzy), we will be coming back. A must try when in downtown Durham.
