Rude, very rude people! Walked in and they never even said hello or what would you like, just snapped at me and said it would be a 45 minute! I replied with a coke in hand, for a drink? He just looked at me like I was stupid, rang it my drink and said snotty, anything else? I said nope and I'll never be back. Even other close patrons were appalled at how he spoke to me.

We've eaten lunch here before and the burgers, pulled pork and chicken sandwiches are all good. But our normal breakfast spot was unexpectedly closed so we went for breakfast. This was not good at all, the biscuit was okay but gravy was cold and had no flavor. Pancakes weren't hot either and the texture was weird and crumbly. The bacon was super thin and flavorless as well. The fried potatoes were good. Then we realized we paid more for this than the diner we usually go to!! Will definitely only return for lunch.

Great food and friendly quick service. The cheeseburger was delicious and the ingredients were fresh. The chocolate chip cookie is a must.

The staff was friendly. We ate at the food side. We ordered fries, corn dog, burger, and chicken fingers. Pretty sure all of it was microwaved. I specifically saw my onion rings microwaved. Next time we will just get ice cream.

Connie is an awesome delivery lady, always has a smile, and enjoys talking to her customers. Not enough stars on the page to give her!

Boxcar is a great little place to get an awesome sandwich. Martha is always great about serving everyone with wonderful service and a smile on her face!

The ice cream was delicious and the ladies behind the counter were super nice, especially after the long day/evening they had. The Polar Express train leaves from right in front of this shop...everything was already decorated for Christmas and it was lovely!

Best ice cream that we tried in the area! The southern peach was amazing, and the cotton candy was delicious! Definitely recommend trying this little hidden gem!

I love their burgers and hot dogs. Make sure that you call in your order ahead of time unless you have the option of waiting 20 minutes or so for your food. However no complaint at all on their food as it is great. I wish they had not stopped carrying Chuck wagons though!

I used to live in the area and worked across the street from this place about 4 years ago and would always look forward to my lunch breaks during which I'd happily spend my money at this establishment. Well apparently it's changed hands since then. My go to was always the Philly cheesesteak and fries with a cherry coke, and so when I found myself in Bryson City again and some family was visiting from out of state I of course suggested the Boxcar Cafe. It was very busy, and honestly I can't complain about the wait time after ordering, but the food was very obviously much lower in quality compared to when I used to dine there. The cheesesteak sandwich was notably smaller and not on a hoagie roll, but instead on a thin, flimsy bun that reminded me of a generic king's Hawaiian bread as if it was just two dinner rolls still attached in the middle. The drink was pretty much just straight soda syrup that was sickly sweet and not carbonated at all. And the fries... the fries were a significant downgrade from what I remember. They used to be thick, possibly handcut, and very crispy and substantial. You used to be able to make a meal off of just the fries if you ate enough of them, but what I had was floppy, undercooked, greasy, generic crinkle cut fries. IN FACT, I literally watched a woman enter through the back with bags of Laura Lynn fries that she'd obviously just gone to Ingles to buy for the restaurant. Customers were basically getting a small amount of these low quality (and undercooked) fries for the price of an entire bag of them at the local supermarket. That's what I call cutting corners to maximize profit gains. It saddens me to realize that my once favorite place for food near the train depot is now most definitely a tourist trap.
