First time eating here, and I’ll be back. Great food and great staff! Didn’t meet everyone, but Martha was super friendly and made great suggestions on what to try!

Stopped in on our way to our cabin. Its was a little pricey but the food was good. the young man taking peoples orders definitely could use some personality but quick services good food and great milkshakes made up for it.

Imo burger was average at best and things are somewhat pricey

They serve great food with large portions. Friendly staff too, especially Martha! She always treats me good.

We visited Bryson City to see some of the waterfalls in the area and decided to stop off at Boxcar cafe. The food was ok, but extremely overpriced. $8.00 for a burger and an additional $5.95 for fries and small drink is outrageous for a small diner. Shakes were $7.00 so it was $60 for four people to eat burgers and fries. If that’s not an issue, then enjoy the chow.

Stopped in for a chocolate milk shake. Friendly staff and a great shake! Highly recommend

Went here based on the ratings but should have dug deeper on the reviews. Half of our party enjoyed their food and half did not. It may be what you order. The club is packaged lunch meat with processed cheese. Not what I was expecting at this price point. The bread and bacon portion of the sandwich were good. Fries are crispy and pretty good however on the greasy side. The tables were not sanitized between parties using them. Just overall not the great experience we expected.

Quaint little cafe. Was NOT expecting to pay 60 bucks with tip for 2 adults and 3 kids meals for what equates to cafeteria food. It wasn’t bad. But not worth the price! Seems like a better place to come just to get ice cream or a shake.

What a disappointment!! First off I never write reviews. My family and I were heading to the lake and realized that in the midst of packing we had skipped breakfast that morning. It was almost lunchtime so we called the boxcar café and cones (twice) but nobody picked up the phone, so we put in an order online (30 minutes in advance so they would have plenty of time to have the food ready when we arrived). When we reached the restaurant five minutes after the order confirmation said that it would be ready, it was not ready; and not only was it not ready, they hadn’t even started preparing our meal. They informed us that they were out of fish (which is what both my husband and I ordered) and that we needed to choose something else. They never called us to let us know that they were out of fish or to let us know that our order would take an additional 40 minutes to prepare. Everyone that worked at the restaurant was clueless as far as our order and what was going on and we ended up having to go through three or four staff members until somebody finally got our new order and started preparing the food. We were never offered anything for the inconvenience. We thought maybe they would offer our two-year-old and nine-year-old a free ice cream or something as they impatiently waited. We were never even offered a refund for the difference in cost for our order and ended up paying more for our food then it should’ve cost. After waiting a few minutes to see if they could issue a refund I just walked out. We waited over an hour from the time that we put in our first order. Once we finally got our meals and headed down the road the food was extremely disappointing!! We will definitely not be returning.

Celebrating our 29th anniversary in Bryson City and stumbled upon this gem. There were 5 people in line ahead of us but the line moved quickly. Best patty melt I've had in a while. My husband ordered the pimento cheese bacon burger and it was tasty as well. Great service and great food.
