Went with my daughter while visiting her at ASU. The place was very quaint and I imagine it's very nice during warm weather to dine outside. I ordered the meatloaf, mashed potatoes and greens. The veggies were outstanding. Probably the best greens I've ever eaten and I am a good southern girl who knows how to fix greens. The meatloaf, however, wasn't that great. I think it had been sitting under a warmer for a while. I will go back, but I won't get that dish again.

we have been traveling across the country from California to Maine, and of eating in many places and many different price ranges. none have come close to the quality of the meal that we had tonight at Proper. The food was so well prepared, so delicious, and the service was wonderful. If you're in Boone, you must eat here!

Me and my boyfriend traveled from Greenville, NC to Boone and had heard good things about this place from friends. The food was very very good! However the service was not good at all. We were greeted immediately and they invited us to eat outside which was nice. After that we were given water and then didn't see the waiter for a solid 20 minutes. Mind you we were the olny ones there besides one couple inside. He didn't ask if we wanted drinks at all and barely even paid us any attention while we ordered. Didn't see our food for another 45 minutes. I had to go inside and ask. And while the man who brought us our food was apologetic, there is still no excuse for this service. However, like I said... the food was incredible but you will definitely have to wait.

Decent food, bad parking, poorly managed. We had a tree hugger in our group, thus we needed a diverse menu that pleased everyone. After being seated, we waited 20 minutes before being seen by any wait staff and after ordering, waited quite a while for our food. Most of our group’s meals were decent, however a burger was blood red in the center (asked for medium). This was no problem, except that the replacement they cooked was completely charred and brought out long after everyone was done eating, had taken time to talk, and use the restroom. No manager apologized or offered to comp. When the bill came for our group of 6, it had a mandatory gratuity of 18% and a charge for an extra ketchup (which was terrible tasting). Tree huggers and carnivores beware!

This is a nice restaurant on Boone. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. The space is small and crowded as it is in an old house. The food was good for a Sunday brunch. They do have some outdoor seating as well.

Obviously the people who rave about this place haven't eaten at someone's grandma's Sunday dinner in quite a while.... or must just not cook themselves!! The atmosphere is cozy and tight. The parking can be a pain in the rear... they have 5ish dedicated parking spaces but reasonable( 1/2 block from) additional parking. The food is... well. Normal. I don't feel like it's worth raving about. It's decent cooked southern food. I feel like the seasoning is off ,but, if you lay it on strong one way some people are gonna hate it. So what do you do? You go middle of the road! I have eaten here more than a handful of times because others choose to. Hence the reason for leaving a review that I feel is adequately backed up. I have been here when it wasn't busy and have been when it was. Food to table times were fine during off hours and a little slow during peak, nothing major worth writing to ma about. The service has always been great... in fact they really get 3.5 stars because of the service and friendly, mostly knowledgeable, staff! I would typically round that up to 4 but my complaints are the tight, I heard everything she(the table next to us) had to say about aunt Sally, the parking can be a pain depending on season or time of day, portions are on the smaller end(I like lunch leftovers *sad face*) considering the prices, and the food is... well.... nothing special but you'll be content!

Went to Boone for the first time visiting and friend at App and she took us here. Luckily we were seated quickly because shortly there after the wait was up around an hour. The food was great and was like a home cooked meal. Not a lot of space to move, but I guess that's not important while eating. I would definitely come back here when I visit Boone again!

Don't know which was better..the catfish, the salmon, the fried chicken, or the home fries.
Can't wait to try the tomato pie or come for dessert only. (The servings were large and their was no room for dessert.)
Actually, the waiter was likely the highlight!

A "must go" place for great food and service. If you go once you WILL be back.
Thanks to the Chef ....and staff!

Stopped in for lunch during a snow storm. Staff is so friendly and attentive. The food was amazing. I had a fluffy fried potato pancake made with fresh made pimento cheese and micro greens, a blackberry barbeque sandwich with fried shallots, and a side of green bean casserole. Also this is the only place I can grab a chilled glass of malvasia wine. I sat and munched for a few hours while digging through audible and my glass never went empty. Amazing food and service.
