I would give it six stars if I could. The food is fantastic - made from scratch, fresh local ingredients, and an amazing group of sides. The building is very cool - an old brick jailhouse, music/ambiance very relaxed and laid back. And the staff was extremely polite and knowledgeable. Overall, haven't had a better experience in a long time.
This may sound to be hyperbole when I say this was one of the better meals I've had in my entire life, but it is not. Service and ambience was great as well. If you are in the area, EVEN an hour from this place, it is well worth it. Classic Southern food done right and presented in a simple manner~ Love this place. Oh. And amazing local beer selection.
I am sitting on my front porch eating the pickle-brined fried cauliflower special & it is AMAZING! Delicious collards, green beans, & cornbread too. I feel like I’m sitting at my Great Aunt Vera’s dinner table in Birmingham & that means this is REAL Southern food cause she’s the best cook I know. Thank you Proper! 🙌🏼
The food was great! The collards were amazing. We took all the dessert to go, I felt we got slighted on the sizes a little bit. Specifically the pies. BUT, still delicious, and we will be back.
Great food and service today at lunch. Chicken and waffles were great and the chocolate pecan pie was really, really good. Kudos to waiter for service and recommendations. Didn't get his name but he recommended collard greens and the pie - two of his favorites. Great calls.
To start, the food we ordered was delicious! There was a waiter there that was incredibly handsome and definitely added ambiance. However, unfortunately the negatives outweigh the positives. :( The menu was very limited, the dining area is very small and cramped, the building is a little run-down, they were out of almost every dessert and their special of the day, and there were FOUR bugs and spiders crawling right at our table- on the walls and ceiling and these were just the ones we saw- scary.. We ended up getting the desert to go and running out pretty quickly when the 4th was crawling right over us. Also, the path in/out and parking lot are hazardous. I really wanted to give this cute, quaint little restaurant a great rating, but I was disappointed in the majority when we left. If the restaurant was in a different building, I would most definitely return and give it another go.
The atmosphere was nice and the food was good. The location is very good, but overall, it isn't anything too special. It's cozy, but the food is just good, not great.
The potato cakes, gravy & cheddar home fries (w/ bacon duh!), fried chicken and meatloaf! And of course, the collards. Get it take out or settle in to this awesome restaurant and enjoy amazing staff, delicious food, and an owner who is in the kitchen or on the floor more times than not whenever I visit. Thanks for all you do for Boone!

Best southern comfort food I’ve ever had without the usually associated salt and fat. Don’t visit Boone without eating there.
