Everytime I visit this restaurant I enjoy the food and hospitality. I receive smiles and great vibes. On 4/20/23 I was there having breakfast with my mother/co-worker, School Crossing Guard,(while I was working,at 8:00 am) I saved the life of a four year old little girl on Route 30- Connecticut Ave and Melrose Ave. She left porch steps and walked across the street. Cars of people were saying," There's a baby in the street!" My mother instincts,I ran with a sore back, knees and legs to get her out of the street. The mother /grandmother of the child sees me everyday. Never said,"Thank you". The waitress heard my story. She thanked me for saving a young life. Minutes later, the waitress and owner said," Breakfast is on us". I was shocked. I'm used to paying my bills. I said," Thank you" with tears. While this was happening, our Mayor,Mr Marty Small was sitting behind me having breakfast (business) with a friend. He didn't have any knowledge of what happened. " I would like to thank(Gilchrist Restaurant for acknowledging me and showing me love." I'm proud to be the person to take action (On The Job) at that time of morning. To the world and beyond, Gilchrist cooks great food! I should know, I'm a cook. I cook for myself, family and community. Queen JammyLou

Nice, rather small, breakfast and lunch place. Founded in 1946. Good portions. Indoor and outdoor seating. Pleasant service. Lovely old time photos on the walls. Free parking. I had the Western Omlete with home fries and an English muffin. My friend had there big breakfast with eggs, French toast, and sausage. Both were 9.95 each.

I've been eating at Gilchrist's since I was a very young child. Denise (the owner) has done a fabulous job of managing and growing the restaurant and runs it exactly as her mother did - with a personal touch and attention to quality. Her son Mike follows likewise. As a result, all the locals go there and have been for over 50 years. It is recognized as THE place to go for breakfast or lunch (or both!). Its one of the few restaurants in which I can recommend everything on the menu, but their creamed chip beef is absolutely unique. We escaped NJ and moved to Florida in 2011 but every trip back to NJ, we must go back to Gilchrist's Restaurant.

This is where to eat breakfast in Atlantic City. Open year round, they have the best food reasonably priced with the nicest staff! In addition to the normal breakfast items they make some really different specials too. Great views of Gardner's Basin from the patio on the dock in the warm weather! They're open early and serve a good lunch too

My wife and I eat here everytime we go to Atlantic City. Great food, atmosphere and service. Perfect grits, vegetable omelet and potatoes. Expect a long wait time during busy season.
