Review of Sump Coffee
Sump Coffee is a popular coffee shop located at 3700 S Jefferson Ave, St. Louis, Missouri. This coffeehouse offers a unique and alternative vibe, making it a favorite among locals and visitors alike. The interior is adorned with lots of reclaimed-wood accents, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere.
One of the standout features of Sump Coffee is their commitment to quality. They are known for being one of the best roasters in the Midwest, if not the entire country. Their house espresso blend is highly praised for its perfect balance of acidity, fruitiness, and floral notes. Whether you prefer to enjoy it on its own or with steamed milk, you won't be disappointed.
The skilled baristas at Sump Coffee craft incredible drinks. Every shot pulled here is perfection, and the milk is always impeccably textured. Many customers claim that Sump Coffee serves the best cortado they've ever had. If you're feeling adventurous, their specialty beverages are always interesting and worth a try.
Sump Coffee is not just a place to grab a great cup of coffee, but also a place to relax and enjoy the ambiance. The interior is hip and stylish, with a unique decor that incorporates wood elements. There is plenty of seating available both inside and outside at tables.
One thing to note is that Sump Coffee has limited operating hours. They are open from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday to Sunday. Some customers have mentioned that they wish the shop stayed open later, but the quality of the coffee and the friendly service more than make up for it.
If you're a coffee lover in St. Louis, Sump Coffee is a must-visit. Whether you're looking for a delicious espresso, a perfectly crafted pour-over, or a specialty beverage, you'll find it here. The combination of their alternative vibe, reclaimed-wood accents, and exceptional coffee make Sump Coffee a standout in the local coffee scene.

This place is great in a weird way.
The coffee is excellent for people that know their coffee... if you love Starbucks you most likely won't like it. (If you don't mind referring to yourself as a coffee snob this is the place for you.)
You pay when you leave which is totally strange for a coffee shop but I frequent tea parlours so I thought it was kinda adorable.
The wifi is crazy fast so if you're working from a cafe this is a great spot.
I love the bearded skull wallpaper.
Staff is very well informed and super accommodating.

The coffee was very smooth and full of flavor. The atmosphere was cool, refined but still casual. The workers were very nice and recommended different brews to me, explaining the different flavors each one had. Definitely would stop by there again!

Fantastic! Served by two knowledgeable, helpful, and passionate baristas. Both espresso and pour over was dialed in perfectly. Overall one of the smoothest cups of coffee I have experienced.

Awesome. Loved the artsy decor. The coffee was delicious - smooth flavor, perfect milk foam.

Seriously some of the best coffee I have ever had! The guy was so nice. He could tell that I had never been in, he took the time to explain the menu to me, and then he proceeded to walk my order to me and bring me the container of straws so I wouldn't have to get up from my laptop. The friendliest staff and best coffee in STL by far!
PS-the look of this place is so unique and I love the positive energy this place gives! You guys now have a customer for life!

My husband and I love this coffee so much that we regularly get it shipped to us in Chicago. The coffee shop is even better with its fun concoctions, great atmosphere and friendly service. The owner is oftern there and has always been receptive and passionate when we engage him in conversations about the coffee. I would highly recommend making this your coffee stop no matter whether you're a resident or a visitor!

When I first went inside I thought it had a very unusual setting for a coffee shop. There were skulls and beards and tattoos everywhere. It was very odd. However. The coffee was absolutely amazing! Probably some of the best coffee that I've ever had in my entire life! To make things better, I went with a large group and we didn't give any warning but they treated us with fantastic costumer service and not as if we were a burden. If that isn't enough, the owner came out and greeted our large group, served us himself, and even handed out cool sump stickers to put on a laptop or something. It was a fantastic experience. They understand customer service! And one final thing, St. Louis is a city with a lot of racist undertones, social inequality, and microagressions but I will say that it was nice to go to a place as a part of a large group of minorities and actually be treated respectfully, kindly, and as if we mattered just as much as the white customers. Shout out to Sump!

Favorite coffee shop/roaster on this side of the Atlantic, second favorite in the world. Good selection, expertly roasted and brewed. Excellent advice given to both coffee snobs and novices. While Sump’s coffee stands its own ground to the point where it really does not need anything to be added, their dirty chai is excellent.

The coffee house is very wonderfully furnished and well done with much attention to detail. I will say a lot of the furniture wasn't very comfortable but was pleasing to the eye. The coffee itself is one of the best cups of coffee I have experienced in St. Louis. However, it must be noted you MUST like coffee by itself to be there. Creamer is not offered and milk is only offered by request only. I have seen some reviews where the term coffee elitist is used and I couldn't agree more. I asked for sugar and felt shunned. I was then talked to and "educated" by who (I perceived to be) the owner on how I should drink my coffee. I believe this coffee shop has a place but will only be enjoyed by a small portion of the coffee clientele. I hope it stands up to the test of time but I personally will never go there again due to the treatment and how condescending the staff seemed to me. If I could I would give it 2.5 stars due to the product alone because it was very well done. However, customer service is necessary to stay viable in such a competitive market.

I often stop here if I am running later than usual to work (they open at 8am) and I am never disappointed.
I have never had a less than great coffee and now they offer tea. Today I'm trying Buddha's Hand and I really like it. It appears Sump takes their tea offerings as serious as their coffee.
Even better than what they offer is the staff that serves it up! Friendly and knowledgeable, they have always been genuinely pleasant when I have been in.
I have taken a new job so Sump will no longer be in my way to work, but I will be making special trips this way whenever I want a really good coffee or tea!
