Liked having my coffee in the safe...cool place and the scones were great. The older lady behind the counter was fairly abrupt (probably needed some coffee) but even so we stopped there twice because of what we called "the safe room." It is a seating area inside a safe. No windows but cool room. And I figured if the lady got really tough with us we could shut the door! LOL

What a fabulous find! The best coffee I've had anywhere in St Louis. They serve scones, muffins, and a few other desert type items that pair perfectly with coffee or tea.

Great space, with great coffee, food, and service!
Upon hearing it was my first time in, Cathie, the manager, took the time to give me a brief history and then talked to me about today's available coffees as she let me sample them. The African roast I went with had great flavor, but was not too acidic or overbearing. The bacon quiche (they also had a veggie quiche, lots of great looking pastries and bagels) had great texture and flavor. Everything is made in house except for the bagels.
The open space is broken up by many potted plants creating some more private nooks alongside the tables out in the open. Too chilly for it today, but sidewalk tables are available out front.
This was my first, but will not be my last stop in!

Great cafe environment in converted bank building. Smack dab in the center of old Italian St Louis neighborhood. Quiet, mellow with some outdoor seating. Great coffee menu. Many surrounding restaurants.

Very comfortable place to sip good coffee while relaxing in what formerly was a bank. Loved the noodle stirrers - so appropriate for the Hill. Look forward to returning.

Adorable coffe house with a vault you can sit and enjoy a private conversation in a cool setting. Delish coffee, and there is a big tree in the middle of the space! I love the environment here!

I visited this place as most of the local coffee shops on Google maps were closed. I drove at least 8 miles out of the way to come here as I was running on fumes and didn't want convenience store coffee. The trip was well worth the drive as both the hot coffee and affogato were outstanding. There was only one person working and she was very cordial and worked very quickly to get my order completed. The store in itself is very unique with and has a very welcoming and relaxing ambience to it. The decor was very imaginative and a tip of my hat to the architect, designer and craftspeople involved in this project. There is even a bank vault for customers to sit in. Half the store is pretty much seating with the coffee station and the other half is for roasting with a nice layout for the bags of beans and outdoor coffee cart/station with smaller bags for retail sales. The aesthetics of this place are simply fantastic. My only regret was the lack of time to spend on The Hill (my first time here) while enjoying my coffee and I will hopefully have another chance to visit St. Louis and return to this coffee shop and explore more of the surrounding area. I definitely recommend visiting this place whether you're nearby or have to go a little out of the way.

Not only do I believe Shaw’s to have the most rich, delicious coffee in the area, I believe the ladies of Shaw’s (Hannah and Rebekah) to give some of the best service I’ve had. From remembering your order to taking stock in their customer’s day to day and asking how they are, these ladies are top notch. I’m grateful for both their service and also their dedication/willingness to keep their customers safe during the pandemic with social distancing and mask policies even when SOME like to think the pandemic has ended. Keep up the great work!!!

I stopped in here on a whim and ended up with the best macchiato I've ever had. The espresso has a rich and complex flavor with no acidity or bitterness -- for me, it is almost savory. I like their whole bean Sumatra dark roast for brewing at home. Also, the converted safe deposit room in the back of the shop is a very cool place to sit and sip with friends.
