This place is a diamond in the rough. I'm so glad my girlfriend and I stopped here! The atmosphere was amazing, the food was great, A+ job. Plus our waitresses, Sue, was so sweet and kind. She is the best waitress I've had. We had a great conversation with her and she even directed us to a gorgeous native american art gallery. The whole situation was a blast and overall a great experience!

My friend and I recently went on a camping trip in the UP and this place caught our eye. We loved it so much that we decided to camp in St. Ignace another night just to stop at Java Joe's for breakfast again the next morning.
This café is a gem. Joe and Sandy are sweethearts who build personal connections with each guest who stops in. The lattes are fantastic, as is pretty much everything on the menu. The entire environment is very colorful and welcoming.
Joe was happy to recommend places in the UP as well as offer directions. He is such a genuine and kind man. I can't wait to go back. ❤️

Had a great time! Very cool little place to get a coffee or a whole meal!

Cool little spot with an wide variety of omelettes. The menu are super cute made out of newspaper print. Staff is amazing and kind. The java from this place is the best. Small cute little restaurant but my family enjoyed and will be back again. A little pricey but not too bad since it's kind of hard to find a breakfast place over here

My boyfriend and I had breakfast here on our trip up north and what an absolute delightful experience it was! The staff had an energy I have never seen before! So overtly friendly, welcoming, and hilarious! The food was not only great in a tasty way, but a nostalgic way as well. Joe stopped by every table, making sure every experience was a good one. Everyone was so wonderful, I’d simply go back just talk to the staff again! 10/10 would not only recommend, but would tell you just to visit St. Ignace for this place!

We appreciated the warm, welcoming atmosphere of Java Joe's so much that we went back a second time while we were staying nearby. The food was delicious (including the vegan frittata!) and they were attentive with refills on the coffee - just an overall wonderful experience. Our waitress and the entire staff were so nice and helpful. Can't wait to go back the next time we're in the area!

Family members ate there the day before and liked it fine. We were all going to meet up there and discuss our plans for the day. Six of them were there already and our family of five was running behind. When we walked in, there was a line. I excused myself and tried to look around the corner to see if I could find our group. The gray-haired, bespectacled, short woman at the counter yelled at me that there was a line. I replied that I was looking for our group. Her response was that there was no large group and if there was, they'd already had their orders taken so we couldn't sit with them anyway. Everyone in the place was staring at this point. We walked out and I called a member of the group to ask where they were. Apparently the back patio. The counter woman came back out: "There's six and they're on the back patio," in a tone implying we were stupid.
On the patio, there was no room at the round top the rest of the family was at, so we started to set up at the four-top next to them, which seemed fine with the waitress. Counter woman came back and said "I need that for four people. They can sit in the corner," and so we went to another four-top in the back corner, which made communication with our group fairly difficult. I was willing to stay and eat this once, so we ordered and had just gotten coffee when the last straw happened. Counter woman came back to top off coffee. My kids (8 and 5) said something about being chilly - the patio was enclosed and there was a space heater, but still. Her response: "Oh, the kids are cold? Well I'm warm." And then she turned down the space heater.
At that point, I got up, told the waitress to cancel our order (which they hadn't started making yet anyway), and gave her $10 for our drinks. Counter woman acted shocked, asked why we were leaving, and when I said "Because of YOU," said "I have no idea what I could have done, but sorry." 😒
Tl;dnr: Counter woman was HORRIBLE; not worth the hassle.

I love you guys so much and have for 2 decades. However, we drove up from the lower peninsula because your Google page said you were Open 7-1 today. Shame on us for not calling and double checking. But please in the future let's update the Google page to save heartache. I just cried in your parking lot on my baby moon because I'm pregnant and planned our trip around your restaurant. I guess we will call ahead in the future before planning trips up this way.

Fun little place! This non-breakfast eater would definitely return for the welcoming atmosphere and the cream cheese crepes topped with Michigan cherries!

We had visited Java Joe’s Cafe quite a while ago. I remember this being a nice place. In fact, it was on our list of places to visit while in the area. Maybe I set my expectations to high so here are the facts and I will let you be the judge.
• We were seated right away but waited for the waitress for a long time to take our order.
• The dining room was tightly seated, and the temperature was hot & muggy.
• Our order was simple, straight off the menu with no alterations.
• When our order arrived, the bacon was almost raw. My Western Omelet had broccoli in it and no meat. Sorry but that just won’t fly. I believe the waitress brought me someone else’s order.
• As I was waiting for my order to be corrected, the owner, Joe, brought an order to the table next to us announcing that her dead pig had arrived (referring to the bacon). He commented on how he was a vegetarian and only ate bugs during his bike rides.
• During all this time, I had finished my disgustingly weak cup of coffee and sat for an eternity waiting for a refill.
• My meal finally arrived, I will admit that the second omelet was not too bad. Nothing magical but pretty good. I did really enjoy the Sourdough Bread toast. My wife also liked her Blueberry Pancakes.
• As I was eating my meal another order was brought to our table. Go figure we actually got 2 incorrect orders brought to us during the same meal.
These are the facts as I remember them. You be the judge if this sounds like a place you would like to visit or not.
