Bentley's B-M-L Cafe

This place was a great place for us to just stop in and have some coffee. The Chiki was pretty good too. Our waitress was so friendly and spirited. Such a nice place, right across from the water, in downtown St. Ignace. Bathrooms are super small but other than that the place is a great place to go.

Very busy 1 waitress set for hour before got food 2hen got pasties they were terrible my husband said the same dough ball with stuff in not cook at all and waitress never gave me any. Change back she just left and helped others we just left just a Bad experience we never go back yuk

We enjoyed breakfast so much we decided to do dinner as well. The staff is outstanding, kind, curious, helpful, fun and informative! The food is just as it should be homemade and delicious. They are apparently known for their PIES, well I don't eat pie ever, but I did make an exception.... I was not disappointed. They have some unique flavors; maple oatmeal, chocolate pecan, peach raspberry, chocolate meringue...... and more! If you love pie get there early they sell out! small inside, old school look. Stay; you will not be disappointed!

Quaint little breakfast spot. Do not try the breakfast pasty...it was stale (freezer burn) and tasted disgusting. When I mentioned this to our waitress I was just told that it's an "acquired taste". Nope.y husband eats anything and even he thought it was gross. We've had pasties before but never again here.

Pasty and pie was so good and fresh. Loved their service.

The food was classic dinner food, well made, fish sandwich was one of the best we have had. Looks like a classic 50's diner and feels like one too. The pies were awesome. Wait staff was great, personable and friendly. We loved it here.

My partner and I were not greeted upon entering this small, dirty diner, and the waitress that did take our order was exceedingly rude and short with us. Besides her, who took her mask off as soon as she left us, there was not a single other masked person there, working, cooking or seated. We could hear the staff talking about us over the coughing of the cook and the overzealous throat clearing by another customer. This is not a place for out of towners, or those who appear "different". We left a generous tip to mitigate the risk of our food being spat in, but the food smelled so unappealing that we didn't eat it anyway.

The manager contacted me and my girlfriend, and apologized profusely for the waitresses behavior, as well as compted our meal.

If you want to wait 50 minutes for your meal this is the place to go! While they can only seat 10-12 different tables, you might get lucky and get your meal after 10 minutes like the people next to us did while we waited over 50 to get served at the same as them. The waitress never even bothered to refill an empty water cup that we've been sipping on for that long. Set our food down and then walked away instead of asking if we need anything else.. after we've been sitting here forever.

Imperfectly perfect! That hole in the wall place you want to return to every morning. Great food and great atmosphere!

UPDATE: Never again! Brought my daughters this morning for breakfast (our yearly Mother-Daughter trip breakfast spot). The most rude customer service! No substitutions usually means you may not change one item for another; not omitting items (generally less work for the cook). Regardless, how the waitress attacked us, regarding substitutions, was absolutely uncalled for. My two adult daughters, as well as myself, have been in customer service. We would NEVER treat customers like that! And my younger two daughters were just awestruck with how rude she was. Sorry...every year, I'm a hell of a tipper...she lost out! Would have given 2 stars because she kindly brought us the correct drinks...dropped to 1 star after she chased us out the door claiming we didn't pay enough. When she checked again, she realized she actually got an undeserved tip because we wanted out of there as fast as possible. Everyone has bad days but this whole scenario was unreal and absolutely unwarranted!

* And although we were hoping for a small town feel, we ended up eating at the Big Boy and the service was PHENOMENAL!

The food is pretty good but the staff is what really makes this place so welcoming! Very "down-home" atmosphere in one of the busiest tourist towns in the UP. We stop here nearly every trip to the UP!
