Very knowledgeable staff who knows their beans! Many varieties available…pour over only so come and enjoy watching the brew process.

We stopped here on a whim for coffee and treat and were blown away! The barista was so kind, offering for us to smell the beans to help in our selection. She then crafted the coffee by weighing the beans and timing the pour overs. We also got a tiny cake which was the best I had on the trip. The owner was also friendly and let us know the treat was from a local bake - amazing. Definitely stop here before heading to see volcanoes!

If you are looking for 3rd wave coffee. Light-Medium roasts this is your place. Great service and chatting with the owner about how difficult it is to find decent light roast coffees in Hawaii.

This place is an absolute gem. Great vibe, great people to talk story with. You won't find oversweetened, gross, froo-froo coffee here, just straight up coffee prepared masterfully like it should be. Look forward to coming here often!

My husband and I both love coffee so we frequent coffee shops whenever we travel. Koana was easily the best coffee we’ve ever had - we both got dark roast iced coffees. Brian was insanely nice and knowledgeable on getting us the right roast for what we like. Watching him work through his process was mesmerizing. We couldn’t have had a better experience. Highly recommend! We wish we could come here every day. :)

Amazing selection of unique coffee blends. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. You certainly never feel rushed. They took time to inquire about my coffee tastes and preferences. The coffee shop held many local snacks, chocolate, and artwork. Coffee cups and lids were all compostable. Community and environment conscious business. A good pit stop on the way to Hawaii Volcano National Park.

If you are driving between Hilo and Volcano National Park be sure to stop off at Mountain View, HI. For two days in a row our group of seven went to Mt View Bakery for goodies and then a few steps away to Koana for coffee and tea. Be sure to get a roasted marshmallow for your drink. Then we sat in the garden and enjoyed our morning. Delightful servers!

I had a wonderful first experience at Koana. Brian handmade me a delicious seasonal coffee (Toasted Marshmallow Spiced Mocha) and it was easily the best mocha I have ever had. I was unsure of what to get for my partner, but after chatting with Brian, he made a special herbal blend that my partner loved! It was such a relief because my partner can be quite particular, and the result was effortless.

Brian was incredibly friendly, hospitable and charismatic. The conversation wasn't forced at all and I enjoyed his relaxed but professional customer service. He made incredible local recommendations that we'll be taking him up on.

If you love a place that puts thoughtful detail into your coffee and tea, this is the place. I'll be back!

Best coffee on the island! Such an amazing selection of local beans brewed meticulously one cup at a time using pour overs. If you love coffee this should be a priority stop every time you pass Mountain View :-D (...and once in a while, go for the mocha or a quick lava shot!)

This place is a hidden gem in Hilo! Owner has great taste in coffee, just ask for his suggestion, you won’t regret!
