5 stars for sure. My brother and I visited the Big Island. We love to rate coffee and coffee shops wherever we go. It's what we do! We traveled around the entire Island and agreed that Koana is the best shop on the Big Island. The Coffee is excellent and the Tea is amazing too! Most shops can't do both well but Brian, the shop owner, he knows his stuff! He presents the art of Coffee and Tea at its finest. If you are a Starbucks sugary coffee drink lover, this shop probably wont be your thing. This place is for those who are serious about the coffee experience and who are looking for the best the Big Island has to offer. Oh! The atmosphere is really lovely too. So, take a drive to Koana, experience a coffee, sip it slow, take off your sandals, and stay awhile. One day we will be back. Aloha!

This is a must-see on the Big Island! We spent a lovely few hours here talking with the owner, Brian, and some locals. The coffee is amazing, we had a specialty fermentation pour over and smoked lava mocha. We also had one of their mousse cakes, which was fabulous. We returned twice over our week-long stay on the big island. Can’t recommend highly enough, you have to see it!

We planned to drop in for a quick iced coffee on the way to Hilo, but ended up there for an hour learning about and tasting different coffees. There's nothing quite like listening to a small business owner with love for his craft and product. His reputation is well deserved! Excellent quality products, knowledge and customer service.

The best coffee we have ever had!

The owner Brain is so passionate and professional about his coffee. Each cup of coffee is brewed with love and the taste is amazing!

Very knowledgeable and creating a differentiating coffee experience. This is definitely not your average starbucks coffee, so if you don't have patience and are in a rush don't come here for a quick coffee.

Visit Brain for his delicious coffee and the experience. Keep up the good work buddy!

A great place to sit back and enjoy a coffee. While they make our order we had a really nice chat with the staff and learned a lot about their process and the area.

Afterwards we hung out in the very scenic outdoor area to drink our coffee and the very friendly owner not only came out to check in but also taught us even more about the coffee plants, even picking a coffee berry off of one of the trees to let us try.

Great experience and well worth the stop.

Such a treat to experience coffee with someone so passionate about and committed to their craft. Owner was so friendly and took his time with each customer, providing options and recommendations from several available roasts. Kids enjoyed their hot chocolate, as well as the board games in the room next door to the main shop.

Came here with a few friends for coffee after grabbing donuts and THEY DO NOT PLAY with their coffee. They know their stuff and they are passionate about it which I think is the best part. We loved sitting here doing crosswords so much that we talked about it to all of our friends for days lol. Also the quality of both the coffee and tea were amazing
thank you, aloha <3

Koana is a hidden gem and Brian is an absolute treasure. Brian clearly cares immensely about people and his craft -- he's always happy to give recommendations and tips on everything from what drinks to try at his shop to local restaurants and activities. All of his coffee is sourced locally and he's very knowledgeable about the island coffee & chocolate scene. I personally don't really drink coffee but his matcha is excellent and his hojicha is the best I've ever tried.

Koana also has a really lovely atmosphere and is a great place to hang out at! My husband and I originally stopped by in search of wifi (which, by the way, is fast and reliable) so we could work remotely, but it quickly became a go-to spot for us to just hang out and chat with Brian, various locals, and other visitors to the island like ourselves. We will certainly be back someday! Thanks again for all the recs and drinks. :)

The place for coffee purists, with very intentional coffee. The brewmaster / owner was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate! They offer only milk free coffee extractions of some really specialty roasts, which gives the opportunity to learn and try something new. We ended up returning multiple times. Highlights were the champagne process pour over, drinking chocolates, and hojicha latte.

Delicious pour over, local coffee. Cute shop sells locally made crafts/goods to purchase.
