This is a very cute coffee shop and I would recommend trying it out. The owner and staff are very kind. The mocha and hot chocolate are unique and spicy. The coffee drinks we ordered were not our favorite but I think that was mostly personal preference.

Delicious and award winning coffee on the route between Hilo and Volcano. Worth a special stop. Next door there’s an amazing bakery.

This is the best coffee shop in Hawai'i!!!
I love the aloha atmosphere and the slow living vibe. They really take their time to make sure you have a great experience and the very best coffee.

One of the best coffee experience I ever had and I only wish I had more time here. The coffee was amazing, the Lava shot delicious, the hospitality unrivaled. Thank you, Brian, for the stories, the education, and the best experience on the Big Island!

Slow coffee… a dark roasted Kona coffee meticulously made “pour over” style was as good as it smelled. We relished each sip - it may have been made slowly… found it difficult to drink it slowly :)

Wow. I’m so disappointed that I only JUST NOW found this coffee shop. I live in Kona, and there’s nothing like Koana. I had a pour over and my wife had the hojicha and both were perfectly balanced. Brian, the owner also made us a couple lava shots (hot cocao with spice) and loved it - bought ourselves a bag. The aesthetics were great, most of the decor being recycled or reused. Super friendly. Will for sure be back.

My husband and I were very excited about going to Koana Coffee. When we walked in there was no hello from both owner and rainbow haired woman whom was sitting down first. We did not know she worked there. We slowly walked around the shop. They have nice items for sale, the only reason I gave one star was from the warm welcome of their dog.
As we were heading towards coffee counter, the rainbow hair lady looked at my husband with no welcome look, just a stare with no hospitality. The owner was knowledgable about coffee but never looked at us once. He was more interested in people that already got their drink and kept us waiting. Idk if he thinks local residence is not important or don't know anything about coffee, but it was not classy at all , while visitors he went the extra mile. Disheartening , we waited for him to come back to take our order. I don't think I will recommend my ohana to go there...we would have purchased some of the items and bought coffee.
It looks like my other review was taken down. I am wondering if it was the owner that reported it because he doesn't want any bad reviews. I am being honest with my review, this was how we were treated.

I'm sure many others here would give this place a 6th Star if it were possible. It's that good. The owner, Brian, is a genuinely nice human being, and a dedicated master of his craft. Reserve at least 30 minutes if you come here to revel in the full experience. We will remember our visit here to Koana, fondly, for years to come! Mahalo -Vince & Kristen

Never thought i would ever write a review. But this is hands down the best coffee shop in the world. 10/10 Coffee 10/10 Service. Definitely worth the visit if you live on this planet.

A proper specialty coffee shop located on the way to Volcanoes National Park. This place was such a surprise...the owner is passionate and brews brilliantly, sells locally sourced/roasted beans and chocolate, and is super friendly. Can’t wait to visit again!
