Jantz Cafe & Bakery

My wife and I just left this Jantz ten minutes ago.

It be a one star if it was not for good food…..which we didn’t get to try (going off me and wife’s experience at the Jantz in Atwater) Breakfast rushes are brutal I get that, short staffing as well. Wait for seating? No problem we waited much longer at places like Texas Roadhouse.

My issue is about the hostess up front. You gotta be more welcoming than angrily/blankly staring at your customers and communicate the wait times (they are face of restaurant after all.) Even a “hello good morning how are you doing? would have suffice. An elderly customer right by the front door had gave us the info we needed and she had been waiting there 30 minutes prior.

Not answering the phone was a big one too. Saw that get ignored as well and we thought the place was closed we tried to call. I leave this review not be a jerk but so this Jantz can improve.

Jantz Cafe & Bakery is out go to place for breakfast when we go out. Service is friendly and quick. Food portion size is ample. Menu options are widely varied. We drop by the bakery after our breakfast to pick up a banana creme pie (our favorite) to take home. Highly recommend for workers who want to pick up lunch to go if in a rush to get back to work. Food is very good. Atmosphere is comfortable and has small town diner feel where their staff is friendly and they treat you well. A lot of gluten free options. I would recommend trying it out.

The atmosphere was very cleanly & the service was superb ???? The food was absolutely delicious! We definitely will be coming back & recommending to our friends & family.

Recent experience that my friends and I had where the waitress was treating us and another group of color differently and giving us attitude. Not sure if she was having a bad day or if it was something else. This place already has a history of calling their employees racial slurs and very vocal on their religious and political views. Yet, the university continues to cater through them. Food is way too overpriced for the quality to be honest. It’s an unwelcoming space especially for people of color. Highly recommended NOT visiting this place.

Country potato breakfast was super salty, the coffee was cold, I do not recommend this place.

Thank you!! Services was great. Food was great, I love the all u can eat clam chowder or chill on Fridays. I have now been to both locations merced and atwater. The lemon bars are good, the cinnamon buns yummy and the pies ti die for. I haven’t had a bad meal.

The hostess was nice and so was the first girl to get our drinks. However, the drinks were never kept full, had to ask for refills, other tables were getting more attention and more service than we were (maybe because most of our table were younger ones), the food was VERY bland. The country gravy was watery, had no flavor (had to add a lot of salt and pepper to it), the potatoes were not seasoned (had to add a lot of salt and pepper), the only good thing about the food was the toast and softness of the biscuits. You know the experience isn't great when everyone at the table says, "another place next time". It really is a stark contrast from your Atwater location. This experience unfortunately was nothing to write home about nor does it match your other Google reviews.

What a hidden gem and a great find! Staff was so friendly and accommodating. The food was absolutely delicious. Will definitely be back. Also, bought a chocolate cream pie-best EVER
