I will start off by saying I've tried very hard to love this coffee shop but the stars received are for nothing more than the aesthetics of the building. Aside from that the coffee is always mid. The coffee never truly feels fresh and always too watered down. I've tried all the varieties of coffee brews but never have I been wowed by the taste; their pastries are somewhat okay. I hate to admit this place is overrated. The people I usually see are locals that don't have much of an option in this neighborhood and travelers who have been fooled by the ratings. Unfortunately, this is not a place for coffee aficionados. I truly hope this coffee was once great and maybe just needs a motivated staff and hungry management with the heart to craft great coffee once again.

States excels in all the ways a local coffee should. Coffee and bread are top shelf. Great community hub, especially on Sundays. Service is friendly and sincere. Sets the standard by which I measure other shops.

Staff are awesome! I don't drink much coffee, but they have alternatives and great pastries!

Chill vibe that's usually quiet enough to actually work! Great inside and outside seating and some of the best vegan cakes donuts I've ever had. And I'm not even a vegan!

Crazy expensive! Only one size available… tiny!
I guess they can’t have a large because it would probably be $15 a cup.

I'll always be a Starbucks kid but States is next level atmosphere, little more hip and with the lingo.

The cinnamon toast and the seasonal jam toast; the best things I've eaten all week, maybe month. Moan-worthy.

One star taken off for this location since their honey latte never seem to have honey in it. The location on San Pablo makes it much better. Come on guys! Over $6 for a latte, please get it right.

Love States Coffee both in Martinez and Benicia. The mocha is my favorite and all their baked goods are fantastic. You can have a wonderful walk down to the water in both towns. It’s a great way to connect with nature and relax.
Highly recommend.

I love this place. We love this place. I love their coffees or special coffee based drinks, my wife loves their teas and my son enjoys the donuts. However I cant understand how they can be so slow at the registry. Usually there is only one person working there taking orders. But also the same person bags your bread or serve your donut or sometimes serves your coffee as the huge line waits patiently outside.. The wait is much less once you place your order.. Bakery selections are delicious, people are always friendly and smiling. Breads are slightly overcooked sometimes, still delicious though.. But boy, can there be one more person at the front to help at least when it is busy at the weekends?
